I love how May has a lot character development in the remakes. Also, In RSE, you never get to battle her with her started fully evolved, while we get that and her started as a mega.

Honestly, May is the best rival in my opinion. Her character development is like a story unfolding; the way she goes from being this boring average rival in R/S/E to becoming a character that isn't just your 'Hey, neighbor! let's battle!' But she really has a connection with the player. Sure, Lillie was great, but I feel like May tops it off after your final battle with her. I like how she is friendly but she is still trying to live up to your standards. Edit: crap team though

@BradleyJames Barlow Hop was a great rival, especially for new players. He teaches you so much but I feel like all his battles are just loops. Sure, he changes his team and he has a great backstory, but there isn't much character development between the start and finish.

Even if it’s just a friendship level, it’s super sweet that after Brendan/ May become champion, their first act is to spend the entire day with the other. They put emphasis on it being daytime when you walk out of the Champion room, yet by the time the final cutscene plays it’s nighttime. They even battle where it all began for the two of them. For a silent protagonist, that’s a remarkable amount of characterization.

Well, the manga Pokemon Adventures uses it to be great! The interaction between Sapphire and Ruby (May and Brendan) was already amazing for pokemon game standards back then. The manga just explored perfectly the story about them two and Hoenn region.

I never had an issue with May being a friendly rival, like most KZbinrs. Considering how the previous rivals in gen 1 & 2 were mean spirited, it was nice to play gen 3 for the first time and meet someone who generally supported you throughout your adventure. And while I can’t deny she isn’t the most complex rival, sometimes less is more and I appreciate how simple her character is

Mega blaziken is actually not that advantageous in remakes imo, as mega sceptile becomes dragon type (which covers up the grass type fire weakness) and can still be faster than mega blaziken that speed boosted for like 2 turns or so? And sceptile has moves like aerial ace that can actually be super effective on blaziken. Only compensation for blaziken might be that sceptile cannot get dragon pulse as TM before entering the hall of fame...🤣🤣

@@milesandrews6711 he wasn't talking about viability. He was talking about matchups. Mega Sceptile outspeeds Mega Blaziken, so it can potentially one-shot Blaziken before it can even get a hit in. There are many examples of very good Pokémon matching up poorly against considerably worse ones, so your comment is pretty silly.

When I played pokemon emerald I chose mudkip as my starter and accidentally got him to level 11 cause I grinded in route 103 and to the patches of grass prof. Birch got beat up in. In the end may got destroyed when I used tackle.
