That sounds like Escanor, making the sun shine at night. Solarbeam would no doubt be one of Escanor's favorite moves, along with Morning Sun and Sunny Day. If he were a gym leader, it would make sense for him to have Pokemon with those moves.

I love how in gen 3 it sounds like the beam is roasting them. I am not normally crazy about gen 3's stream of balls for energy waves but the speed of them here makes the beam seem very ferocious. The bright background really sells it too. So gen 3's is my favorite solar beam.

IMO, I don't like how they changed the animation from firing from the Pokemon to firing from a fixed point in the sky. I get that it's a laser "from the sun," but all the energy that they gathered isn't at the sun - it's in their bodies, so I think it should still be fired from their bodies, not from the sky.

Yeah, I always had a problem with Solar Beam's animation, even if it did pair beautifully with a Drought user like Groudon or Charizard Y. Still think it should come from the 'mon itself, like a Grass-infused Hyper Beam.

I think people underestimate how impactful the solar beam is to a 9-year-old boy who was shown only red and only blue being associated to strength in media until the solar beam absolutely destroyed a fire-type gym-level Pokemon.

Why run solar beam? Jacob almost everything is 2HKO by groudon's STAB combination alone with only charizard, ho oh, talenflame and the dragons being the exception. Covering those specific threats are more important than seeing its super effective flash on the screen

I enjoyed the first 3 generations Solar Beam animations, I like the thought of the sun's rays being bounced off the Pokémon charging the attack. Granted , I was unable to play any gen 4 or 5 game until recently. I never owned a ds till XY, and was playing gen 3 for about 10 years straight. So, I may be a bit biased. :-)
