As a synth junkie, what I really need is something that no manufacturer has done yet at a reasonable price: a digital mixer/audio interface with TONS of 1/4" inputs (48 ?) and just a few basic features: the ability to record any channel via USB (no need for 40 USB channels; just a stereo subgroup to select which channels are being recorded), two aux sends for use with external effects and simple channel controls (gain, 50Hz cutoff, pan and maybe a simple 3-band EQ per channel). No need for powerful internal FX units, complex routing, automation or dynamic processors. It would be nice if it had also no faders or physical controls. Mixers used by synth collectors are used very statically so knobs and faders tend to damage by dust accumulation and usually turn the device into a maintenance nightmare.

@synthlab3 жыл бұрын
Well, the best would be to have a real analog mixer with eq and effects PLUS individual channel sends to USB, allowing us to record many audio channels on the computer at one time, all in individual tracks. Of course this means separate DA conversion on each channel, but it is worth the money. Especially studios with many analog synths ... please make a mixer with 16 stereo channels and separate tracks sent to USB for recording (USB 2.0 can handle it), analog synth owners will love you.

Behringer has the Xenyx QX2442USB which has 8 direct out and 8 subgroups so you can have 16 outs going to your soundcard, That's a very nice alternative
@OhGodThe3 жыл бұрын
I did this in my studio. I had a vintage 700 lb Teac studio mixing desk. Each channel had a direct out, post-amplification, which I would direct in to individual analog ins on my MOTU 20 in/20 out A/D conversion rackmount. I liked the analogue sound and generous overhead of my vintage board, its gorgeous-sounding creamy EQ and compression tones, but didn't want to sacrifice the post-production flexibility of having each instrument/mic isolated to its own track, in the box. My point is, you don't need some kind of new product to do what you are describing.

I think that many live musicians need a small, simple hybrid. Just between a mixer and an audio board. An idea for Behringer: an audio board with some inputs (maybe 6 or 8), with two independent stereo output on XLR or TRS (balanced), and independent potentiometers. To drive theater PA and personal monitoring of a keyboard player. There is nothing on the market with these features. And I need it so bad... Thanks and happy new year to the tribe!

Using the X32 just to connect a lot of gear is overkill IMHO. You pay for thousands of features that aren’t needed for that purpose. And, without expansions, the X32 has less inputs than a plain X18 after all. A 48-input mixer with little features (the minimum required to just mix and record your analogue instruments) would be my first choice.

Yes, of course. It depends on what you wish to achieve. As an amateur electronic music producer, a 4x mono / 2x stereo input audio interface is sufficient. My synths are connected to the mixer. The output of the mixer goes into some synth effects, then into the sound card. This way I can always record 2 independant tracks at the same time, a mix of different instruments or both at the same time. However, if you wish to recording a band and do some post-processing in your DAW afterwards, you will need an audio interface with a larger number of inputs to satisfy all of the instruments recording independently. note: all my synths are also connected to a controller keyboard by a "midi-thru" interface. This way, I can control the different synths from a single keyboard and mixer without moving away from my desk and/or disconnecting cables.
