It was a tragedy that George and Orry saved him from drowning at West Point just so he could continue to wreak havoc in their lives, especially Orry's. I can't watch Book 3 knowing he survived a certain and deserved death again.

In the book Orry apparently never talked about Bent with his family. And when Bent finally got aquantened with Ashton and Huntoon he never reveled his true identity. He went by the alias Erasmus Bellingham. Of course I prefer how things were done in the miniseries.

The changes they made to Bent for the miniseries were welcome compared to the book. I had trouble thinking Bent could seriously get the best of Orry and George at all the way he's described in the books, let alone Charles for that matter.

I watched this in the 80s and 90s and then again, when Patrick Swayze sadly died. It took me >30 years to realise "Orry" = "Henry" in French....

Save for Patrick Swayze, many of the cast members ended up marrying eachother o this show. Jonathan Frakes who played Charles' brother met his wife Genie Francis (Brett) on the set. Kirstie Alley met her fist husband on this mini -series as well.
