Mixing Caridina and Neocaridina shrimp together in the same tank

Can you keep Caridina and Neocaridina in the same aquarium and what water parameters to choose when you mix two different shrimp species? I'm going to answer these questions in this video.

So I've been keeping both types in the same tank for about a year now with great success with both species. Currently my water is pH6, TDS 120. I think the trick for me was to start with a thriving colony of neos, and slowly (over 1 month) changed their water to caridina parameters. Then I added Caridina. The neos are still growing and breeding, and my Caridina are as well. I did have some neos die off over the water change process (mostly adult blue jellies) but they have since rebounded to uncountable numbers.

Yup, you need to make sure your water is stable and I suggest using RO water with Salty Shrimp Bee SHrimp Mineral GH+ to remineralize to 120 tds. Your pH needs to be around 6 as well. you can either run co2 to keep the pH low or add botanicals like almond leaves and wood to acidify the water slightly. A lot of shrimp keepers use a buffering substrate like aquasoil to keep everything stable but I've never used it. @@ayushmannath7232

Great explanation and video. I love this topic as I'm asked daily about it. I've done it before but like you mentioned, it's not really recommended, but what q great reason to get more tanks. I'll eventually phase out my 5 neocaridina tanks soon

Yes some of them has red patterns. It’s completely random and i dont think they can breed truly

I'm confused, I added a gh of 5 to my ro, and some alkaline buffer, but how do I get my ph 6.7 and kh 3? I thought raising one would raise the other? What do you guys do to keep the water ph6.7 gh5 kh3? Edit: My current water is kh 4, ph 7.6, and gh 5. And I used the seachem buffer, 1/4 teaspoon for 5 gallons

Your water parameters sounds just fine. Gh is not really important, Kh is what makes your water pH high

in my 6 month experience keeping them both in caridina water parameter GH 120ppm KH 0 pH 6.2-6.5 temp 25, here are the result for me: 20 Orange -> 8-10 orange shrimp 1pair PRL -> 8 PRL 🙈

additional information : I inject co2 because this is heavy planted shrimp tank, and 1 week after I stop the co2 injection, almost all my shrimp vanished (3 shrimps remained), still mystery to me, some people said because the DO is decreased significantly, some people said might be the nitrate problem

When you inject co2 you PH drops so maybe changes in PH affect your shrimp, you know shrimps don't like changes in the water parameters

You make 2 mistakes. - Neocaridina are going to die in this low PH. - You let your Shrimp eat dead Shrimp.

I don’t think they’ll die, I kept neos before in caridina parameters. They might not breed, grow very slowly but they’ll be ok. It’s not good to feed dead shrimp if it die from infection but if it die from accident and was healthy that’s absolutely fine, lots of protein😂

to survive neocaridina have most flexible towards waterparameters (caridina on the contrary). you can keep neocaridina even over 500 TDS3 and GH 24 + PH to 8, no problem. (i do not talk about KH). The waterparameters on neocaridina for breeding = very different then this.
