This video was amazing! So much useful information to understand why I've been more successful with breeding in certain tanks and not others. I haven't had a mass death yet, but I think it's because my tap water is very good and I monitor my tanks very closely. I use planted tanks and a sponge filter so it balances out the bioload and siphon areas with a baster that don't have plants. My maintenance is not as efficient as others but my slower and more minimal cleaning has always been about keeping a delicate balance. It seems I've selected good plants in my successful tanks. Some slow growers like moss, but mixed with medium growers too. And he's right...those tanks are flourishing. I also kept some botanicals. They love Catappa leaves, especially the babies! I keep those in areas without plants so I can easily clean those areas when things eventually break down.

This video is so informative thank you for making it! His opinion on inbreeding is interesting since for every other livestock I've taken care of, it's considered bad. From what I know lava rocks are for the most part inert. Is there specific types of lava rock or was my information incorrect? I've also heard no-planaria can help against limpets as well but haven't tested it out so I'd like to know your opinion on that. Been wanting to get into caridina but I worry about the soil losing its buffer after a couple of years since I like making long term planted tanks. Is there a way to lower the pH without adding tannins or disturbing the soil or are those the only methods?
@ShrimpMania
@ShrimpMania 8 ай бұрын

Hi, I saw you are using a Sony camera for your videos on shrimp. What is that lens you are using to video the shrimps? I am guessing you are using a Sony A7Mark 4 with Sony 16-35 GM lens? The video is so sharp! Great video btw.!!😍😍

Thank you, glad you liked the video. My camera is Sony A7SIII it's better than A7IV because I can shoot 4k up to 120fps without crop. A7IV can only do 4k at 30fps at 60 it has 1.4 crop. You guessed the lens correct! Gmaster 16-35 my favorite lens. Now mew one coming next month 16-35 Mark II a little bit smaller and better, will defiantly upgrade because of the shorter focus distance, good for filming shrimp, I can get 5cm closer without losing focus, that's what i need

that 'brown wall' is brown algae. usually happen at low nitrate, low light conditions. technically function similarly to green algae. I'm guessing he's saying it's not good probably because it's not preferred food source for the shrimp and it occupy space for green algae to grow. It could also be biofilm which is just microorganisms/bacteria build up.
@ShrimpMania
@ShrimpMania 8 ай бұрын
Interesting, I thought about it too and I have some of brown in some of my tanks. I think it's not that bad at all. But scraping sometime works good to grow more healthier one. Sometimes I have very soft and short hair algae on the walls and after I shave it I normally have a healthy green one.

shrimp thrive on neglect more than pond guppies do. ive found the more rough and tumble i am with them the more robust they are. id say his line just handles that sort of swing up and down with the gh i am certain when he started that practice hewent through a lot of losses but what remained were the ones that handles it and passed on the hardier genetics. this guy is great..i wish he spoke about the specific data surrounding growth and sales as well as quality like is quality taking a dive on this scale or is it being maintained despite the more negative practices and the very bare tanks. ive found my shrimp breed best colours and grow fastest in my scaped tanks but im moving away from scaped now

I wonder what kind of substrate they put in UGF for neocaridina tanks

It's in the video but I would tell you anyway it's a specific lava rock which increases kH of the water for the benefit of neos. Quick advice - watch this all, you'll find a ton of good advice in this video. If you follow them all you'll be a successful shrimp breeder.

A little different, but about 7 years ago i had my first serious reef tank and lost over $500 of a gold torch coral that i had bought (dipped into savings to get it too). It died pretty quickly. My wife was furiois with me, but i persisted (and im glad i did!) Now i have 6 successful reef tanks, a 2 gallon "riparium", a 10g planted tank and a 3 gallon shrimp tank. Sometimes, bad things happen to our tanks, but that can be a part of the challenge (though we shouldnt seek out those challenges). Ive found that success after a loss is incredibly rewarding and you only truly fail if you give up. You got this!
