As iron sharpens iron, one person sharpens another. Thanks for another short and sweet vid. I never even thought of the issues a small poolside pad could present and how tiny the margin for error is whwn working in such close confines. Consider posting more of these self-mix jobs.

Nice job. I just mixed some yesterday to fill in a small form I made to help channel water in to a drain. Had pipes to work around and small nooks and crannys to get in. Think I mixed it to stiff as it didn't fill in the nooks and crannys well. Looks like the neighbours kid did it to be honest. But live and learn. It was my first time ever mixing cement.

Whew ! I just did a similar project to this one. It was a 3ft by 3ft square, 4 inches deep. I used four 60 lb. bags of ready mix concrete. The printing on the bags called for 3.5 quarts of water per bag. That turned out to be way low. I added more water. Perhaps my mix was not as thin as it should have been, but it was mud, and not crumbles. I used a rock rake to mix, but the concrete soon became too thick, and so I used a rake and then when it was too thick use a shovel. A shovel has bad leverage, and requires too much effort. A hoe, such as you're using looks to be the right way to go. I ordered one off of Amazon. I like how you mix half a bag, and then add the other half. I'll try that. I used one of those black plastic tubs to mix the concrete in, but I think I'll use a wheel barrow on my next pour. I brush finished the small pad with a push broom. The texture was too rough. I notice you use a fox tail brush, and I will follow your example on the next pour.

@@MikeDayConcrete I want to patch holes in a patio that are bigger than the cracks in your crack videos, but smaller than this. The biggest hole is maybe 70 square inches and all the way through, then another hole about a quarter that size, also through and from a broken out crack. Anyway, I would like to see you fix things like that. I might refinish the whole patio someday, but not this year.

Mike, As it dries...rinse the cream off until you bring up the aggregate to mach the old stuff. will not be slippery and will match. I found out by experimenting with slab

Do you worry about the lack of air entrainment in your area when mixing by hand?
@pauleohl Жыл бұрын
Did you tamp the dirt before you drilled and pinned? Did this job use about 400 pounds of concrete? I am guessing that the patch was 3 ft x 3 ft x 4 inches.

What would be a competitive cost to do this type and size of project- labor and materials?
@psidvicious4 жыл бұрын
Funny how a little 4sqft patch like that can take as much time as it does. You probably could have finished 200sqft+ of new concrete in the same amount of time. Did you consider making a pass down the saw cuts with the edger, just to sharpen up the lines a little bit?
@mingthemerciless68554 жыл бұрын
Mike, can a bonding agent be used to ensure good adhesion?
@psidvicious4 жыл бұрын
I can only speak from my own experience but, I’ve always felt bonding agent was very overrated. Sometimes it seems to work a little bit, but other times, it doesn’t seem to work at all. The rebar he put in there is the most affective thing you can do to prevent heaving or sinking.

Hey Mike great videos, your highly skilled. I have a question about silica dust. Ive drilled into concrete for fasteners etc. I saw that you wore a mask for cutting and not drilling, long story short whats the best practice to not get exposed to to much silica dust? Am I being overly cautious wearing a mask while drilling small holes for tap cons ?!

nice work with the edger and the float, they bestfriends but at least you missed one trowel pass under that little broom finish. i would say two in order to be almost perfect. round trowel there before the broom and there you go. besides that good job

Mike, I have deep pitting in several localized spots on my concrete driveway about 1/2" - 3/4" deep. I was thinking about using a two different applications. The first to repair the large pits and the second to skim coat a thin uniform surface over everything else. Will this work or do you have other advice on this?
