Now that's a line array! Launched 20 years ago and still one of the best line arrays in the world!!!!! Here in Brazil, this line array made events with more than 1.2 million people (including one of 2 million!!). The V-DOSC is equal to the 214y, from LS AUDIO (best professional sound brand in Brazil, and one of the top five in the world) in everything, including audio quality. It is second only to Meyer Sound's PANTHER.

Hey just found your channel, thanks for making these videos! One question, with shows like these does each act use their own stagebox/cable runs etc, or is there equipment shared between bands? I would assume the former but then I wonder about keeping the stage clean with 3-4 completely independent setups? Thanks again!

Great sound. Nice job. But would you agree when I say there is nothing easier to mix an outdoor event with a first class PA? My major challenges are usually gigs with Brass in a Pop Big Band or a traditional Brass Band in halls where the horns and the brass have a very high volume of their own, maybe the hall has a lot of natural reverb too. These gigs are real challenges cause you do not only have to mix the band itself but you have to mix the signal with the real sound of that is coming from stage.
@GuillaumeLortie
@GuillaumeLortie 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Thomas! I agreed with you, the room and stage volume are huge factor that influences your mix or your approach to a mix. i need to do a video about that.
@Thomas.Hoermann71
@Thomas.Hoermann71 2 жыл бұрын
@@GuillaumeLortie Oh yes please. I think this is very interesting for a lot of new soundtechs. You csn see tons of videos about mixing but nearly none of them shows the challenge in live audio that you have to deal with. Most of them demonstrate mixing with virtual soundcheck files where you do not have any influence from the stage or the room. This is the major difference to the real life. And it can be very frustrating if you don‘t have an approach to this.
@perkeleman1265
@perkeleman1265 Жыл бұрын
I also agree, I always feel guilty when doing outdoor shows on good systems, good sound without doing much lol. One thing I had to learn when I was just starting out as tech: Communicating it to the Bands to keep it down when playing in bad rooms, once the direct sound of a drumset from a overly motivated drummer in a small venue overpowers the PA sound, all you are doing is damage control from that point on.
@GuillaumeLortie
@GuillaumeLortie Жыл бұрын
Remember those days, bad sounding small room with overly loud drummers… I try to do less of that now a days but it still happens on corporate gig form time to time.

Really interesting to hear the inverse frequency response of a big live PA recorded! I guess the people blocking all the subs makes it quite top heavy out there, so makes sense as to why the recording came out like it did.
@GuillaumeLortie
@GuillaumeLortie Жыл бұрын
Hi 👋 Actually I did mix with that much subs to get the physical feeling of low end. PA like L Acoustics are basically flat, reproduce anything that you throw at them with as little coloring as possible. Imagine that mix at 100 dB peak on a wide stage. That about it.
@DaftFader
@DaftFader Жыл бұрын
Ah ok got ya, I figured cos the subs were on the floor and the rest hung in a line array there might of been some low end compensation needed, because human meat shields, but it's that it just sounds better with more bass, I shouldn't of needed that to be explained to me tbh ;p.
@DaftFader

@@GuillaumeLortie I was just watching RSL and he spent a day with a big named band's touring sound tech, and the tech said (to paraphrase) "A live mix is like a caricature of a studio mix" (as you want to really hype the important parts for the crowd such as sub and kick). Which I really liked, and immediately thought of this convo. As someone who mostly spends their time with music in a studio, it really made it make sense for me. ;)

Hi Justin I’m using the DL32 for both FOH and monitors, all i’m using form the festival is the RJ45 cables, I’m always asking for 2 or more to get a spare one and redundancy. because im setting gains myself for monitors and I do adjustments at FOH with the Trim, everything is comfortable for me to mix.

It’s my personal WING or the local CL5. I prefer the feature of the WING vs the CL and since I always use it with this band, it’s make more sens to me then starting from scratch every time. I just get better results that way. I’m looking to get HD96 Air if it ever becomes a thing.

Yeah I’ve been impressed by basically every modern live sound system I have heard including l-acoustics, D&B, Meyer, Adamson and Clair. Everyone is competing, and there really isn’t a best speaker these days, it’s all about what you prefer. I prefer the clear sound of D&B or Adamson as an audience member. I also like their subwoofers. What are your thoughts on the new high power point source boxes like KV2 and Danley? I’ve been impressed by a few KV2 systems as well, and their subwoofers seem to be top notch.
@GuillaumeLortie
@GuillaumeLortie Жыл бұрын
Hi 👋 I just did a gig last weekend with a Adamson, they are not really popular here in Quebec, I don’t see them a lot but I must say I was pleased with it, reacted a bit different form what I’m used to form most of the DV-Dosc and Vertec but I liked it. Next Saturday I’ll do a mix into a K1 & K2 setup at the new Montreal Lasso Festival. I can’t wait to finally mix into one of those PA. About KV2 and Danley, I never try them so far but if it’s quality, I’m more then happy to give them a shoot.

I personally worked mostly on d&b T10 for a good while and the switch to Meyer Lina and Leopard blew my mind. I loved d&b, but the stereo image and phantom center of the meyer is incredible, even without any system processing. They also sound a bit less harsh than d&b, wonder what you guys think about it.
@djijspeakerguy4628
@djijspeakerguy4628 Жыл бұрын
@@perkeleman1265 It actually has seemed far harsher to my ears, but that might be because I’m judging it on the old M’elodie speakers. My last Meyer rig I heard was 6 M’elodie and two 700-hp per side, with the top 700-hp’s flipped backwards for a cardioid setup. The M’elodie speakers didn’t sound right to my ears. The treble seemed harsh, and the vocal range seemed oddly quiet, and there was a serious mic feedback issue. The 700-hp’s also sounded a bit woofy and didn’t seem to reach super deep, though they were quite loud. I do remember being impressed by a newer, larger Lyon system, especially in the vocal range, but the 1100-lfc was only a little better than the 700-hp.
@perkeleman1265
@perkeleman1265 Жыл бұрын
@@djijspeakerguy4628 I guess Meyer has caught up with their newer lines. I personally liked the 900-LFC, for the 1100 I only worked with these as Monitor Tech, so I don't have too much of an impression on those yet. I think Ed Sheeran is using these on tour, which I'll incidentally be seeing tonight as I'm joining my wife, so I'll get a better listen to them later haha. But yeah, this summer I worked on a smaller city festival stage with a Lina + LFC 900s and I really loved the system.
@djijspeakerguy4628
@djijspeakerguy4628 Жыл бұрын
Yeah. I heard a Leopard/900-lfc rig in an indoor theater environment, and I have to say, it seemed to do really well, though that was a different environment than I was used to, so I kinda thought it wasn’t a fair of a test, but maybe the Leo series really are substantially better than the old Milo series, not just a minor improvement. And, I noticed the same with D&B products: the Q series seems quite outdated, and sounds very much like the old Meyer Milo series. The V, Y, and T is a bit better, but still not perfect. I have heard the new SL series, and I think they definitely compete with Meyer Leo. At some point, you should probably test out the new XSL array and see what you think! Also, I have been really impressed with the Adamson S10 in terms of clarity, especially in the vocal range, and their s119 subwoofers seemed to play every note at the same volume. Those are worth at least a test run as well.
