Thanks, I still have to compare it to the commercial release that’s obviously pro mixed and mastered by the best in the industry. Then I’ll see how I feel about it! Hahaha. Either way I did this fast and it was fun.

@@RiotHomeRecording I use 3 Lexicon LXP15II and 2 LXP1's with an MRC controller. Nice to see someone else appreciate the old Lexicon. The old Yamaha REV 5 is a beast for its Reverb and its EQ and is incredibly cheap when you find them, would sound great in your rig..

I have a question: whensong has more tracks than your mixer has faders, so do you do this so that you can adjust the volume of each track despite the relatively few faders?

Good video with classic consoles i am so worried of repairs lol
@RiotHomeRecording4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Spektor, I completely refurbished & upgraded this console. It’s fully recapped, has all new switches, relays, etc... and I have a ton of spares. It’s been going good with no issues for 4 years and if a problem comes up, I will repair it. It’s not hard to do if you know electronics. If you don’t, you can always learn.

Sadly the large format consoles are phasing out these days in Mixing rooms. Everything is going the Hybrid in the box mixing route as many of these classic consoles are getting replaced by an Argosy Console desk full of outboard gear. The newer modern analog consoles are getting smaller cut down mainly for Hybrid mixing and analog summing.
@RiotHomeRecording3 жыл бұрын
Not in this studio! I will always have a large format console!
@eman08283 жыл бұрын
@@RiotHomeRecording Most of all the big Mixers mixes mostly in the box often with a Hybrid setup. But it is true that large formats are going away as they are getting smaller and smaller mostly used for Analog summing or Hybrid. The cost of maintaining late format consoles has increased. Only a small number of large commerical facilities has a larger format console or has upgraded to a Duality Delta. I think Chris Lord-Alge and his brother tom are the only ones left that still mix on an analog console. Tony Maserati, Dave Pensado etc all moved to a digital system.

Steve I wanna ask You something.When You replace your old mixer capacitors or transformers did You lost your console’s original saturation and colour ?
@RiotHomeRecording3 жыл бұрын
Hello RCX! I never replaced any transformers they’re all original. All I did was refurbish the board, I repaired everything that wasn’t working. I recapped it and that made it even better as I used better capacitors then they had back then. I also did install new discrete opamps in the master/monitor section. That allows me to hear what the Mixbuss really sounds like. The original color & saturation of the console is still there like the day it was made but even better. The new opamps I installed in the master/monitor section are on sockets so I can easily put the originals back in if I wanted to. Additionally this is a quad console and I still have the original opamps in the 2nd Mixbuss. So I can choose one or the other or blend anywhere inbetween. With ease! Steve

For me it s a static balance, not a mix. The whole point of mixing is to move the fader to create dynamic.
@RiotHomeRecording Жыл бұрын
That’s the last step I do on every mix. Automaton on tracks, Automaton on Plug ins, and I ride the faders during the print.
