Actually simplified this whole process for me. It makes so much more sense now 😮

Love this stuff. Analogue mixing is still the best way to go. Get a good sound and then mix it on analogue

I appreciate it, Tommaso ! I’ll be adding the other segments this week . I also just put another video up about simplifying mixing in the box. Thanks again for checking these out !

Hey Sean ! Thanks man ! I know we are both die hard API guys , we should trade off talking about the 1608 !

@@RDSmix that would be great! I’m just now starting to mix using the ssl uc1 controller and the ssl plugs sound great. Nothing beats going through the console with outboard though. All client dependent of course.

Smart workflow.... Print everything then finish ITB. Best of both worlds.

Thanks for the VDO. how often does the console break down or needs repair and what is the most common issue? I'm considering buying one. Tsanks

I loved the 4000E at Cypher Sound KCMO, but I spent most of my time on 4000G or plus in Atlanta and LA. I always prefer the 4L's over the 9K's or newer Duality/AWS series.

All great desks, amazing how different they are . I teach at Montgomery Community College that has a 9000K that came from Atlanta . Wonder if that’s the same desk you worked on in Atlanta ?

Awesome! I do some of the same things when mixing on my console! I'm curious as to how do you handle effects printing of stems? Do you ever share effects between instruments/vocals, and if so I'm guessing you are printing all effects stems separate? Thanks!
@RDSmix Жыл бұрын
Hey Seth, thanks so much for watching. Great question, as there are only 4 aux sends. I typically will do them in batches , as I tend to use separate reverbs for the drums and vocals , different delays for guitars and vocals . Worst case scenario it’s a second set of effects prints. The other scenario is when it’s a much larger mix than this where I have to reprint another 30-50 audio tracks. That’s when I will cook down big groups like backing vocals , multiple room mics etc down to stereo pairs.

For those who don't have access to the 4000 console, try Alex B 4000 AI console, black and brown eq...it's nebula-based and sounds stellar...thank me later:)

To each his own, but you're skipping the mix bus by essentially using the channels like inserts and summing in-the-box. Also, the transformers are only involved in the mic preamps so not used in the channel line amp signal path. Still a great desk and certainly sounds different than all digital. Don't underestimate the importance/character of the SSL mixbus/summing! You can even upgrade your "26 cards" (LF and RF quad bus mix amp cards) if you wanted a more detailed modern sound off the desk.
@RDSmix Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, the 2 buss and the compressor need service , so I’m bypassing it while I wait for the repair . I plan on doing another video explaining the importance of that section. I misspoke about the transformer, great point about the summing !
@VolcanoBeats Жыл бұрын
@@RDSmix yea figured that, last 4000 i worked on extensively was the opposite, mix bus was fine but preamaps were shot....we had a room full of various BAE preamps and just used the SSL to mix and sum...that Cue bus usage was great, too gonna have to steal that one...lol...thanks for the vid

I swear routing is one of my weak points in audio engineering. I'm pretty slow when it comes to understanding signal chains.
