I ordered close to (1) of every color off his website after this video came out. For $3 per color I have a life time of "Para post" "Timmy" wings etc.. and I make them exactly the way I want them, not how hairline or the others say I should have them.. And the results are amazing!

Great video. I am new to fly tying and find your demos wonderful. I am a fiber artist and have a hint to make the blending faster. Take two dog brushes lay the fiber on one then brush through with the other, going back and forth folding the fibers over to mix the colors.

Thanks Charlie, you help so many of us fly tying/fly fishing anglers!!! Love your videos they are just so informative. PLEASE never stop making them. Going to your web site and buying some yarn right NOW.

Thanks for the demo video. I have been making my own dubbing for several years. I never thought about macrame yarn as I can see it’s great value with dry flys and emergers. By combining that with elk and deer hair you really get the unsinkable fly.

I buy polypropylene yarn from fabric stores and do the same thing. I need to get one of those dog brushes. :) I tie a lot of parachute flies using that stuff. It fluffs out more, making a slightly bigger "wing" to see than the polypropylene you get at fly tying shops. Not to mention it's a literal tiny, tiny fraction of the cost.

Good advice. Thank you. Can you use that resulting polypropylene as fly tying dubbing? Thank you.

I have been unraveling a few inches of the rope and cut it off, do the same with a second rope if I want to mix two colours and then roll them between my fingers to make them straight. Then mix the two small portions. Keeps the rope tidy and in the bag it came in.

In addition to fly tying material, perhaps one could make their own custom yarn strike indicators this way as well?

Your dog brush looks like the perfect tool for the job, kind of heavy duty. Do you recall where you purchased it? Bill Dodson Troy, Montana

That macrame yarn looks similar to EP fibres and or also crinkle hair.

Can polypropylene blended like this be used for dubbing too?
@CharliesFlyBox Жыл бұрын
Not really. These fibers are very coarse, you could chop it and use it in a loop but it definitely doesn’t twist on worth a damn.

Have you used this for a crab fly?
@CharliesFlyBox Жыл бұрын
I haven’t but I’d have to think it would work pretty well. The material sheds water nicely.
@jjm4643 Жыл бұрын
@@CharliesFlyBox I would think the fact that it's bouyant wouldn't matter with a weighted fly(?)

It will slow the sink rate down just lie ep fibers, though ep fibers have a finer diameter. Since doesn't become.water logged it allows for more delicate presentations, which helps when some fishing. I still prefer ep fibers for crab flies, because they are finer, but I have used macrame yarn and it works.

Would this stuff work as an antron substitute for egg flies or La Fontaine sparkle caddis files?
@MrStyamamoto10 күн бұрын
It's not as fine as antron, will work probably but not as effective
