2:35 sounds better (less harsh) but you are loosing some Side information here, it sounds less wide. personally I don't like techno sounds that are so harsh out of the gate, they often just seem to mask that there isn't much substance in the actual song writing (4 chords all over)

Does the plug determine frequencies or is there a way to zero in on that manually?

I believe it's predetermined but there are two settings Soft/Hard, when you hit the filter solo you can hear the signal feeding into the damper control which works to deharsh
