You should weigh your salt with a cheap Amazon scale. So much more accurate. Many salts list specific weights per liter/gallon. Especially for smaller volumes of water

The heat is coming most likely from the salt that provides the calcium. When I mix the Red Sea Calcium additive it heats up the water considerably. This is a physical reaction as the desolving of the salt releases energy the producer had to put in energy to dry the salt. Some salts are binding stronger to water which means they release more energy when desolved. I would highly encourage people to use two stages for the DI resin to prevent TDM leak when the resin runs out or to have to change the resin too early to prevent it. I do continous water changes with a rate of 1gal per day. I also saw that the salinity creeps up after a few hours of mixing so wait at least 12h before adding.

For keeping track of how many cups of salt saying it out loud doesn't work for me, so i downloaded an app that i can click count each cup. It remembers better than i ever could.

NaCl breaks up into Na+ and Cl- as it dissolves in the water. So a bond is breaking between the two elements and as a result it is an exothermic reaction >>> heat

I would recommend getting a more expensive heater. Cheap heaters tend to break after a year or two and often boil your fish with it.

So since I'm setting up my tank for the first time, I can add dechlorinated water and then add the salt while filter and everything is running and let it mix that way?

I don't understand your math. A box of salt at BRS is $62.99 for 160 gallon box or $2.54 a gallon. I can buy it at my LFS for $1 per gallon. How is making my own saving $?
@BulkReefSupply
@BulkReefSupply 2 жыл бұрын
I think you may have done your math backwards. If a box of salt is $62.99 and makes 160 gallons of seawater, that would be roughly $0.39 per gallon ($62.99/160).
