The compression on this vocal is so nice and the high end doesn't hurt or stick out too much and the low end is cleaned up where it doesn't sound telephony. Can you make a 2021 Beat Mixing/Leveling tutorial and show us the proper way to set a master chain to make beat loud enough for beatstore... I dont want to have a beatstore with beats where some beats some louder and others sound quiet. I have a decent mix and can make it loud but it doesn't smack like other top producers beats on there beatstore. I can send in a couple of my beats for this if your down.

@SeanDivine3 жыл бұрын
Nice! How do you like it on rap vocals?
@Warmwinterz3 жыл бұрын
@@SeanDivine i love it for recording, havnt used it in mixing. I use it pretty lightly (4:1, 8ms 100ms no more than 5 db reduction). The fixed attack and release settings make it easy to set and get the sound you want. I kind of wish the input wasnt 5bd steps but its not a huge deal. Preamp is super clean with comp/sat bypassed. When comp/sat is in alot goes a long way. The comp doesnt really "soften" vocals like some comps do. This one kind of "pushes" the vocals forward in a good way. The more compession you add, the more you have to lower the output. I also ike to use the 2:1 ratio on some adlibs (lower ratios is how you get more saturation out of the drive knob) and drive it pretty hard (10db reduction) with fastest attack. Super flexible unit

I never get tired of hearing that intro haha! Great video man it helped me minimize my chain and still have a great sound. I have a weird question though. When I put my plugins directly on the channel (rvrbs and effects are bussed of course), I get a more direct sound and when I use the same setting and same plugins in the same order through studio rack, it sounds more thin and not as direct or punchy I guess you could say. Everythings the same settings and they’re both in mono, I just don’t understand why it sounds different. Hoping you could answer this? Maybe its just a different color when using studio rack? I cant think of a reason lol
@SeanDivine3 жыл бұрын
I haven’t had a difference there in any case. Are you hearing the issue in real time (tracking), post processing... or both?
@Tolen3 жыл бұрын
@@SeanDivine pretty much both. I made a duplicate track, one with the chain in studio rack and the other on the channel itself both with the same settings on each plugin. Then I switched between soloing each one and the track with studio rack just sounds thin. Even when I put only studio rack on and switch between bypassing just studio rack (as in no plugins on it and only an empty studio rack on the chain) it sounds brighter and thin which in this case I don’t necessarily want.
@commonsense51883 жыл бұрын
@@Tolen This was 8 months ago, but that is very interesting. Did you ever find out what the issue was?
@Tolen3 жыл бұрын
@@commonsense5188 nothing around the color or tonality thats still a mystery but I did find that there can be latency depending on your plugins as where logic pro itself adjusts accordingly to plugin latency. Theres an option in the settings to fix plugin latency for high cpu usage plugins even on busses. On top of that logic pro has low latency mode which will tell you what plugins have a lot of cpu usage because itll turn them off when this setting is on. Studio rack is an amazing source to use but I mainly focus that on my cleanup in the chain rather than effects processing. I tend to use fab filter and uad stuff for my high processing plugins :)

Do you have suggestions for someone with raspy vocals? I've used soothe 2 and eq'd the hell out of this voice but it gets too airy or ends up boxy when I try to tame the crispy rasp. The closest comparison is NAS.
@SeanDivine3 жыл бұрын
immediate response is why tame the rasp, especially if it's a signature vocal character like NAS? 😊 ...or is it a specific frequency you're hearing that's harsh?
@francisbawasanta63103 жыл бұрын
@@SeanDivine When he raps it's dope... when he sings (which is where he's starting to focus) there's a boxyness that pops out. When I tame the boxyness with EQ the raspyness comes out even more and deessing seems to make little difference. If anything I'm just curious how others treat raspy voices. I try to keep the shine and have tried to not eq out the boxy freq too much.. ends up a strange cycle. I might be doing too much because it's not the typical pure singer voice. Maybe I'm trying to get Chris Brown from Nas... I'm curious how or if pros treat diff types of voices. Maybe I'm just doing too much.
@SeanDivine3 жыл бұрын
@@francisbawasanta6310 it's tough to say without hearing the voice as each is different, of course... I say you might take a closer listen to some of the less focused on mids i.e. 1.5k to 3k, which can be a source of unpleasant presence / buildup. Try a dynamic EQ to actively tame that range
