Yo so do these same principles apply to a 2 track with no limiter? I usually make my own beats and use a 2 track but I don't use a limiter on them until the vocals are applied, just wondering

There are no words to thank you enough for sharing these tips...specially the last one. I make music, but I'm not an engineer. I'm mixing my own mixtape tracks and was struggling big time with clipping on 2 track beats...even after turning the volume down on the fader. Now I know I was messing up. You're a great teacher, I see a Music Institute in you Devon. May God keep on blessing you.

In logic, i use the clip gain option in the region inspector to turn down the two-track if it comes in too hot. that's a good option as well that I learned from Alex tumay.

@CrypticBTR5 жыл бұрын
One thought about the SSL EQ to make room for vocals: This totally makes sense, and is a good idea. But you could take it one step further and use a dynamic eq or mb compressor sidechained to some main vocal bus so that 2k is only attenuated to make room for the vocal when the vocal is active

Hey Devvon , I have a little suggestion. I remade your technique and added a Steven Slate low end Trick. After that all processing for the 2-track beat you can implement EQ with reflective filter. I mean low pass and add it at around 51 hz for the kick tightness. By doing that you can have more aggresive kick and less not important low end that muddy mix.

Would you recommend using a side chain EQ to remove the lows and somewhat boost the highs? The lows on the sides are removed, allowing more room for the low in the middle and the highs to be placed on the side. I'm hoping this makes sense. Thank You!

Nxl for warmth saturation remove digital taste Smack attack for designing transients SSL EQ. For vocals room on 2 track Faders are post plugin. If you insert say 4 effects on your two track the first insert you will turn the gain down by whatever decibel you see fit so that way it doesn’t distort coming in hot from the audio source. Monitor volumes. Take your two track down a few dB’s

i always come back to this tutorial cause i always forget, and btw i saw reid stefans video and he did something on a house track, which is basically the same thing you did with the SSLEQ ducking the frequencies where the vocal sits from the beat to have the vocals cut through the beat. he used the F6 eq, sidechained the vocals to that f6 that is on the beat to make one band duck everytime the vocal comes through,

All great points, might I suggest taking it one step further. Go the the raw waveform to lower the level of the 2 track instrumental. In Ableton it's called the Clip Gain, all DAWs have some way of doing this. I pretty much always lower it by 5 to 6 db.

Very good video best information is turning the beat down because it's mastered. Also could throw trackspacer on the 2 track and run vocals to it to carve space out for the vocals Edit: actually carving that 2khz range is the best information and then throwing trackspacer after the eq makes it even better.
