Nice! I like that you chose a blue that tends toward cyan instead of like an Ultramarine for this triad. The green and purple mixes remain vibrant but you're able to still get some very dark darks. I have Azo Yellow PY151 (not the Nickel version), which is slightly different. I like the Nickel Azo Yellow, it seems to start out really golden and then has that fantastic range down to that super bright yellow! That's definitely next on my wishlist.

I agree. When I first mixed these colors I was amazed at the variety of colors I could achieve. Nickel Azo Yellow is a powerful color. It tends to charge into other colors when mixed. I like it. Thanks for watching.

I am ever suprised how many colours you made. What I would like to know is how can you make browns, or a ( lavender, ) I have noticed that I have favorite colours and I don't use all in the pallet. Or at the beginning I was looking for special greens. Now I know that I can mix colours. Thanks for all your very good and intressting videos. I enjoy watching many greetings Christiane from Berlin Germany 😊😊❤ .

Hi Christiane. I don't have a video on mixing lavender. But I do have this video on mixing turquoise that you might enjoy - kzbin.info/www/bejne/qJCulqqea9R4gZo I also have a free download that provides more detailed information on how to mix turquoise from colors you already have on your palette. I just limited my palette at the beginning of this month. Went with Daniel Smith and 2 warm and cool of each primary color. I didn't know how to mix my paints the past year because I was using a premix paint set of 48 colors. I still love that paint set, yet I couldn't do the basics of watercoloring because I didn't know what warm and cool colors meant. I wanted to thank you for fixing your mistake on the video and not editing it out, as it helps those of us whom need to learn to do the same. Your a fabulous teacher, I'm so glad I found you! ~*Shana

PR177 is still not an ideal replacement for Alizarin because its lightfastness is not best. DS' Moonglow has this PR177 in it, and this red part fades significantly after a period of indirect light exposure, leaving only the blue and green behind. I would choose to mix Perylene Maroon and Quin Rose to get the similar hue.

I've read that Moonglow is not lightfast. IMHO Daniel Smith is not all that it is market to be.

Hi Danny. Thanks for the input. I'll have to keep an eye on my paintings with PR177. I haven't noticed any fading. Daniel Smith rates it as Lightfast level 1 - which is their highest rating. That's interesting. Again...thanks for watching and sharing your insights.

Hi Kris.. just watched the video on mixing 3 primary colors. I have struggles to decide what quality/name I should buy. I have very poor quality beginner watercolor paint. I decided to try mixing color rather then just buy lots of color in a set. In looking for the individual tubes online I could only find Anthraquinoid red in a 15 ml tube. Since it was price I wanted to get the 5 ml tube to start. . Would there be a close substitute for that color? Looking forward to watching your channel. Thanks Diane

Hi Diane. Thanks for watching. Daniel Smith has a Permanent Alizarin Crimson which is similar to the red in this video. In fact it contains PR177 -- plus two other pigments. It comes in a 5ml size. You can find it here: amzn.to/4ePj5zN

How do you feel about concerns about lightfastness? I've heard complaints and I'm a bit suspicious of Daniel Smith paints.

Hi Reba. Thanks for the question. I've been using Daniel Smith for the last 2 1/2 years and have no complaints. I have a bunch of art that is displayed under light...and it hasn't faded at all. I guess I really trust the brand. They seem to have the trust of a bunch of other well-known professional artists. So I also take heart in that. I don't have any "evidence" I can share with you. Just my experience.
