Ah, the mixtape. I only gave away one carefully produced mixtape that I mailed to a pretty Swedish girl that I met on a beach in Florida. That tape went with her all over Europe, the Middle East and North Africa. She and the mixtape eventually found their way back to Florida where she explained that the mixtape constantly reminded her of me. 24 years, a marriage and 2 adult kids later... we still listen to the same music together. Hence the power of the mixtape. Peace.

You forgot the absolute worst part about making a mix tape. You'd wait around ALL DAY to hear your favorite song so that you could record it off the radio, only for some jackass DJ to talk over the intro or cut the song off early. RAAAGE.

That's why the stuff I record is either from a CD, or music I produce myself live, while it's recording!

Or one could have saved up to buy the actual record, to support the artist. It's not the DJ's responsibility to cater to listeners' taping desires. It's the DJ's responsibility to cram as much entertainment as they can on into their allotted time frame.

@@amandas2639 I never denied or assumed anything about what your age might have been. I simply pointed out a legal issue that exists, as a point of advice. If you want to tell someone to lighten up, you might try doing that to some copyright holders, and see how well that works out for you. If you were a musician, especially one who needed sales as your livelihood, I think you'd hope everyone who likes your music would buy it or would ask their parents to buy it for them, instead of doing something else to get satisfied without it. I want to thank you for the "Francis" compliment; I just looked it up in the urban dictionary. I didn't realize I was that kind all the time, but I try to be. Have a nice day.

i use to make mix tapes all the time, i loved my Sony Walkman until the CD player came along and then the CD writer, then it was all about mix CD's and then it was about putting a couple hundred MP3's on one CD and then and then well you all know the rest, the ipod came along and now i have 32 freaking GB's on a chip the size of my thumbnail with thousands of songs on it and i never even listen anymore, it really is true that more is less.

Oh the memories. My godmother got me a green and white Casio cassette player for my 9th b'day. It came with a mic so I used to add little messages if the mixtape was for a girl I liked. Unfortunately, during a bad storm the house flooded and most of those tapes along with my little radio were lost. That really sucked because it was one of my favorite 'toys'. I'd kill to get a hold of one of those tapes today. I'm 30 now.

You didn't even need blank cassettes, just a tape you didn't listen to or one you hated and fold up a piece of paper into a tiny square (or use adhesive tape) and place it in the empty space on the top side of it and BAM recordable cassette tape! Record silence first, then the goodies. It was a pain, but I truly miss those days.

Just my opinion, but I don't think anyone is being condescending or saying the younger generation doesn't know things. It reminded me of how much time and frustration went into waiting hours for a song to come on the radio - just for a chance to tape it, when it's so fast and easy now...And that's a very GOOD thing! It does strike me that we should have more free time now, due to improvements like this - but I have less, perhaps because it's too easy to get sidetracked on KZbin making comments and visiting other interesting videos. ; )

I loved the tape to tape stereo systems that came out. I devised a method of being able to cut out the DJ completely from my recordings of the UK Top 40 charts from the radio. First I would record the whole show on one cassette and then using another cassette, I would cut out all the points were the DJ began speaking. Sounds silly now but my friends really struggled to work out how I managed to produce a perfectly edited Top 40. Mind you, it was 1986 lol

Can top that! First mix tape I ever made for a girl (of course) was an 8 track tape, holding about 12 songs. I had one of the few recording decks. Got some songs off 45s & lps, some recorded off radio onto a reel-to-reel to 8 track. Tried to fit songs onto each track which was dang near impossible. Many times it would change tracks in the middle of a song. You can see and hear it happen on Wayne's World, when Bohemian Rhapsody was playing and they had to pause then pick back up after the change. I probably should explain what all of those things I've mention are but this is way too long anyway. Anyway, try doing a mix tape on those and you'll never bitch about doing it now. Plus you couldn't save a copy, you'd just have to do it again. Lets just say, IT SUCKED!!! The little bitch just threw it away.
@rickcharles5064
@rickcharles5064 11 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah, on Wayne's World there was a mistake. Wayne put in a "cassette". A cassette wouldn't make that pause. That was obviously an 8-track pause, double click, pause and start again. Did I say I hated 8-track?

You can get a cassette audio adapter which has a audio input that enables you to plug in a CD player, mp3, or phone. ;p

Aww. I almost wish that the entire internet music presence would suddenly dissolve so that we could have the opportunity to make meaningful mixtapes.

What about making a mixed tape from CD to cassette? LOVE the pencil in the cassette spool. Been there, tried to do that!

Don't mean to brag but, by kindergarden I professionalize making my friends and family cassette mixtapes. It all I ever did coming home from school, I sat & listened to the radio all evening. Music was always a big part of me until I was forced to be social and got sucked in with Barbie products and tainted on what a young girl should act & be. Then in grade 4, burned CD's where a thing. Never learned. I loved cassettes.

I'm 20, still a kinda young generation but of course I still know cassettes/mixtapes from my childhood. But I am wondering, do kids that are like 12 or younger today seriously not know cassettes/mixtapes anymore???

I bought a 2001 Chevy minivan with a tape player. My youngest son asked me what goes in here? I told him it’s a tape player. He asked me why was I playing around.
