This woman knows what it means to actually teach something. There are a lot of genius's (and I mean that in every sense of the word), who either have NO concept of what it means to teach. Or, they're insecure, and the only intention they have (under the facade of "teaching") is to give a winded display of all their knowledge. This woman remembered *RULE #1* , ESPECIALLY on something like KZbin, which is.......... NEVER ASSUME SOMEONE'S KNOWLEDGE!!!!! She's teaching this as if the person she's talking to has never so much as been in a recording studio, let alone worked with a console. She get's it. I'd pay good money to have her teach me.

@ReggieReddog6 жыл бұрын
The polarity switch ought to also be passive I would think, but I guess sometimes those switches corrode or start to wear out and result in a compromised signal; so the less of that happening in the chain, the better? No such issue with hard wire. She is such an audio nerd, I love it.

Cj singh you make a "phase invert cable", which is a normal balanced cable in which you invert the + and - signals in one of the sides. Then just patch the signal with that cable.
@nicholasparis52816 жыл бұрын
Sylvia Massy obviously possesses an eloquence of thinking and communication in the studio, and her explanations are very fun and accessible no doubt (the mode in which a master demonstrates), but when she said "phase reversed patch cables" with her own tangible explanation, my heart completely melted and I just fell totally lost in love didn't you all?! :D ...and it's a compliment to joke, but somehow I feel... that THIS is exactly who Hillary Rodham would have ended up like if we hadn't changed her (into a politician instead of a hip, smart free and gentle being of light...)... yeah those MELVINS KICK LOL!!!

@ 5:12 Two mic's pointing at each other does not cause phase cancellation. The phase cancellation happens if you have a sound source between the mic's that produces positive air pressure toward mic-A while producing negative pressure toward mic-B. If you mic a snare drum with one mic on top and one on the bottom they will be out of phase because the snare drum produces opposite pressure on top and bottom. I believe a snare drum produces symmetrical pressure in the horizontal plane so if you place two mics pointing towards each other with equal distance from the snare drum but placed in the horizontal plane relative to the snare drum they will still be in phase.
@DaveElke3 жыл бұрын
this is so cool. do I have it right? If I take a patch cable thats phase reversed, and patch out from a half normal then I can get my MS sides phased canceled at the patch bay, and this sounds better? must try..
