Well, the piano is actually her first instrument. She started playing it at the age of 3 and studied it to concert pianist level. She was already 18 when she felt she needed some kind of challenge and tought herself to play the guitar from books. You should also take a look to her bass and drum playing skills 🙂

Being a musician, I think you'd get a lot out of her recent video which shows her practicing Liszt's La Campanella on her piano. It's really interesting to watch her approach, and the improvement in her playing over the time she practices.

To appreciate more deeply the genius of Miyako, I searched YT for piano covers of this same song. First, they were few and far between (I think this speaks to the challenge). Next, when you compare her interpretation and arrangmement to the two I found, you realize what sets her ... and by extension LOVEBITES ... with respect to their consistently exceptional composition and arrangement - regardless of whether their style of metal is your preference or not. Miyako said in an interview that she composed this and several other Lovebites’ songs to one day be accompanied by an orchestra (Think Metallica and the San Francisco Symphony concerts). This is also evident from her most recent compositions in their Judgement Day album, and from Dystopia Symphony (an ‘insane’, classically infused, almost 7-minute long masterpiece to which few have reacted kzbin.info/www/bejne/j5zMg3qcrJpqaLc). Also, "Above the Black Sea" paraphrased elements from Rachmaninoff's Second Piano Concerto. Metal and classical music are more closely related than most people realize. This may sound weird at first, but if you watch documentaries on the foundations of classical music, e.g. Bach's, these speak to how "rebellious" and disruptive his music was back then (reflecting Bach’s temper tantrums) in the church! FYI, Bach spent four weeks in jail for his protests and "obstinate" behavior. So, those today who praise classical music as “cultured” while simultaneously consider heavy metal as obscene could benefit from lessons in history.

Just like you, I also looked for other piano covers of this song and wasn't impressed with what I heard, whereas I really love Miyako's version. Being a fan of "old" Metallica (up til MOP), I'm now very curious to hear Miyako's piano arrangement of "Battery". So far, I have found three. Two of them don't do much for me (one already stops after 1 1/2 minutes), but the following version by vkgoeswild (it has a better sound than her first version) did impress me: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hpXPlJunndtqq7s I only learned about her a week ago, because someone had requested a live performance of her piano rendition of "Master of Puppets" in a livestream of another reactor. The most "extreme" metal song she has covered is probably one by Carcass - in a live performance, which is also to be found on her channel, she even broke a string. While I think that vkgoeswild tried to maintain the aggressive character of "Battery" in her piano rendtion (after all, it's a Thrash Metal song), I wonder what Miyako's approach will be and if resp. how far she will change the character of this song

When you consider that Miyako has been playing piano for 30 of the 33 years, she's been alive....😮 In November, she is doing a piano recital. One of the pieces she will be playing is " La Campanella " by Franz Liszt. It's one of the most difficult piano compositions ever composed. Years ago, her piano teacher insinuated that she would never be good enough to play it. 😂 Look at me now !! 😏❤️🎹😎🤘

Miyako never said that she is planning to play "La Campanella" at her piano recital. There's a slight possibility, but hardly. She just started to practice it for the band's concert. For someday in the future when they would perform "Lost In The Garden", she wants to play "la Campanella" just like Chopin's etude as an intro for "Swan Song". And about her piano teacher, English subtitle in MIYAKO's Channel says," it's impossible for you", but translate accurately according to Japanese subtitle, he (or she) said, "It's too early for you" or "You're not ready yet". IMO, he didn't mean to deny her. Just FYI and for the piano teacher's honor's sake. 😊

Are you familiar with the channels of vkgoeswild and Gamazda? I just discovered them a few days ago, but the piano covers/arrangements I've heard by them so far have been impressive. If you don't already know these channels, but are curious, I'd recommend to start by checking out their renditions of Metallica's "Master of Puppets" and "Fade to Black". While vkgoeswild's approach seems to be more aggressive or wild (as the name already suggests) - in a cover of a song by Carcass, she even broke a string! -, Gamazda's approach seems to be a bit more refined (if this is the right word), but that's just my impression. I also think that Miyako has done an excellent job with her arrangement of "Eagle Fly Free". I'm curious how the other piano covers will turn out.

I love your jaw dropping in amazement during that solo section. That section gets me every time! I can't believe I'm going to see her play this and other songs live. She started learning piano at the age of three and achieved master level. If I remember correctly, she started playing the guitar at the age of 18. An incredible talent.

What she actually did, was to lead us through a magical tour through the history of classical music. She weaved in elements from Baroque to Romantics, you could here influence of many classical composers, like Bach, Händel, Beethoven, Schumann and even Haydn in that hymnic part. The masters would probably sound like her, nowadays.
