5:12 says it all, Asami's glowing smile to Fami as she crushes her solo. The best metal band ever is back and they're on a mission. Of course they're firing on all cylinders, would you expect anything less, lol. Appreciate the love for Haruna, she so deserves it. Although she's not front n center, she's absolutely the MVP holding down that backend. You need a Lovebites poster Eric. 🙂 So glad you got back to Lovebites; you're Frozen Serenade reaction still one of the greatest. 🤘

Fami the NEW bass player - the nuclear power cell of smiles, joy and energy! This was her FIRST EVER large scale concert and first with Lovebites! Notice Fami slaps those two bass solo sections and the bass/drum section after the solos is a joy... Asami's look of support and delight, followed by a thumbs up to Fami. Not only did Lovebites make the perfect choice, Fami BELONGS in Lovebites. The energy is radiating from all members. Haruna's playing is incredible here and her drums sound amazing and of course M&M kill on guitar as you'd expect... but notice Miyako seems invigorated!!! She's moving around, head-banging even, more so than I ever remember seeing. "We're back!" Hell yes, you are! GO! Oh, and Asami sounds better than EVER!

Wait!?!?! I haven't been following Lovebites for a while so this is the first time I heard that Fami joining the band. I was following Fami a while ago after Davie504 video about her, but haven't caught up with what she was doing recently. Love to see her confidence to perform infront of huge audience considering how she often hide her face on her early videos. I'm very happy for her.

Very good analysis. You hit the important points. As far as Haruna goes, the gold standard in drumming for me was always Gene Hoglan on the DEATH "Symbolic" album. Haruna is moving in THAT direction. I'm overjoyed. Also, I feel Miyako is following in the footsteps of the legendary Michael Romeo. Lovebites is an unstoppable force. Lovebites is "lightning in a bottle".

I never thought about Ministry. Interesting, and I can hear that. Exactly regarding their looks. It's irrelevant as this isn't a beauty contest. It's metal played to perfection. Stank face 😂😂😂. Midori's is perfect, Miyako doesn't have one. In fact, at the end of her solo, she closes her eyes and is just into it. 100% agree with the den mother Asami. When she looked at Fami during her solo, she was a proud mother looking at her child - that's the vibe I get. Haruna is simply a beast. There's no other way to put it. She is a master at speed, fills, double kicking, cymbals/bells/china, and use of her entire kit. Excellent analysis.

This is a remarkable moment for Lovebites and for Lovebites fans! Asami screams "WE ARE BACK" at the opening of the song because it has been a while, they haven't played in a concert since Miho left the band. And, also, this is the very first live video with the new bassist - Fami! Your reactions are amazing, plenty or insightfulness and enlightingments. Thanks a lot for reacting to Lovebites again! Fami's live debut on bass. She fits right in, and yes I agree, it's not fair. 😊😛 Not surprised you noticed her slaps, that's part of the style she brings. This Knocking on Heaven's Gate DVD is scheduled to be released August 23. Asami's vocals keep getting better. Haruna is just a beast on the kit, how she keeps it up for 90 min to 2 Hour shows, IDK. This is an older song, from the 1st album, 2017's Awakening From Abyss. Concerts in years past , they played the intro piece The Awakening as a lead in. Those are the 1st 2 tracks on the album. If you want more of 'It's Not Fair' 😁, you should see Miyako playing a Chopin piano intro on Swan Song, live at Zepp DiverCity Tokyo 2020.🤘🤘

Awesome review and analysis as usual ! You're spot on and I've got nothing to add (which is unusual for me... 😅) EDIT : Actually, I've got one thing to add - Miyako released her debut piano EP a few weeks ago. The EP contains 6 piano cover tracks of famous rock/metal songs. Her interpretation, reimagination and rendition of those tracks are amazing. There's one video on YT from that EP, Helloween's "Eagle Fly Free" : kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y5mWc3-IqJWLqJY . You might want to check that out.

A very good analysis. Haruna is special. I do not think I have ever heard anyone drum the way she does. You had a very good description there. Yes, she is flowing with the music and adapts all the time to what she needs to do. Those cymbals gets some extra stabs when it is the right time to do it. She is playing the tune just as much as Asami is singing it or the guitarists are playing their solos. It is not simply keeping the rhythm and following some patterns. I am no base player and I do not know what the base player thinks about that. Is it easy to follow?

In my opinion Japan is going thru a Metal/Rock renaissance right now. The “Big 4” of Lovebites, BabyMetal, Band Maid, and Nemophila are opening eyes around the world. Wish they could all tour together on the same bill (even a one off), just like Metallica, Anthrax, Megadeth, and Slayer did back in the day. That would be something, yeah? Keep up the great work! Cheers!

I get you about their appearance. Its not relevant to the experience, its an afterthought, if its even a thought at all. Its interesting you say that about Fami's slap on that 1st small bass solo section, because Miho used a fast arpeggiated fingerstyle technique on that part. The slap used by Fami makes it sound fuller, imo, since Fami is chording the notes allowing them to ring out longer. I know she has the skill to play it as fast as Miho does fingerstyle, because they both play the long bass solo after the guitars identically. So I wonder if it was a deliberate decision to make that slight change, or if its just the way Fami naturally heard it. I like it. It adds a little something new from her to the veteran material. I'm excited about listening to this whole performance and hearing what else she added. With Asami's vocal, the English lessons have really paid off because she sounds more confident in her pronunciation, which I think translates to more power. Her voice is a true instrument that blends beautiful with the other musicians, so you really have 5 instruments going, and they're all played by world class musicians.

Eric, two names, two blasts from the past that lead directly to this sound: Angra and Rhapsody of Fire. Their influence is waning in the West, but Unlucky Morpheus and Lovebites, as well as Unleash the Archers are not having any of it, they're bringing the shred.

Yeah when this live DVD launched they debuted the entire concert on KZbin and the thing I noticed was that of all of them Asami was the one who was clearly working the hardest during their hiatus. Came back for another listen. I really appreciate the depth of your reaction and analysis. Asami, Miyako, Midori, Fami, and Haruna have earned that respect 100x over. Go back to 2017 when this song was first released. Listen to the several versions of the past. This 2023 version is a reflection of the dedication each one of them has for their craft. They have fluid and efficient stage presence, and it is mesmerizing to watch both as a group, and focusing on the five different personalities, each mesmerizing in their own right. They are collectively, in my opinion, the highest level of combined talent than I have seen in a band in my 50+ years of listening to metal. This is metal of the highest quality. The technical aggression is amazing.

They are a product of a culture that respects the arts. The Arts are taught in their schools with those with talent are acknowledged and encouraged to fulfill that talent. So when we look at their bio's music education starts at a very young age. They put the work in. Midori learned to lay the guitar at 20yo and MYK picked up the guitar at 18 yo, self taught, first riffs - Metallica. Both started with music pre-school age. Last point - Do you know who cleans Japanese schools?? The students!!!

Among all your excellent points and analysis of Lovebites, and particularly this song, the phrase regarding Haruna, "She is unexpected" is so on target that I had to comment. A lot of heavy metal drummers using the double kick through the whole song gives a bit of ear fatigue. But she is so creative with her foot work and adds such amazing layers with the cymbals, and of course holding it all down with the snare and toms, that multiple times listening to a Lovebites song to get the intricacies of the guitars and bass interplay, results in the subtleties in the midst of the power of the drums creeping into your awareness and the whole package is greater than the greatness of the individual parts.

In Japan, there is no organized gifted education. With basic music education and extracurricular activities, there is a huge population of people who play a variety of musical instruments as a hobby. They are the pinnacle of such hobbyists. It is not the result of gifted education from early childhood.
