Fantastic sound overall. Very convincing. People forget we are still in the infancy of modelled piano tech. What will a digital piano modeled in 9” concert grand body sound like? I’m sure there will continue to be a niche for acoustic grands in decades to come, but this is the forefront of where it’s going. I own an AvantGrand and though the V-Piano sound can be lifeless and cold at times, the behavior is spot on. Have to give it to Roland.

Don't try and argue with any of the Horowitz's lovers. Some of these people think the man was God. Regardless, there have been others that play as well (admit it or not). Maybe not better but as well (sorry that you single minded people wont give credit where its due). This man does an exceptional job..

In my humble opinion - as a Hungarian -, Japanese artists are interpreting this eternal masterpiece the most authentically. I salue you for this level of pianist's education in Japan. Receive all of my admiration for both of those outstanding perfomances like this one (brilliantly smooth technique) and for the great audio-quality as well! It was full of joy to listen. Edit: Oh! He is a Japanese-Hungarian?! That makes more sense. P.s.: Do you use the Kodály-method in Japan?

As a Hungarian... this is excellently played Sir. My only complaint is about the finale. You never do it just once, and not so quickly.. it is supposed to be a symbol for the resilience of the Hungarian people (much like the Japanese) who won't just give in and will keep pushing with full pride as long as our people demand it. And let it ring and fade out. (it=our past glory). Keep playing Hungarian pieces, you're great, and I don't say this about just anyone! edit: also, some of the movements are supposed to illustrate the finest horses prancing, so rhythm should be less even, more like a horse, but I understand that's super hard to keep.

I've known that this was the best digital piano I'd ever heard, ever since listening to this performance on video. The "grand" version is in my opinion superior to the regular stage piano version. But either one is better than the vast majority of sampled digital pianos. I had a guy from Guitar Center try to sell me on the idea that a Suzuki digital grand was just as good, but he clearly doesn't know what he's talking about. $20K is expensive, but still very affordable compared to Fazioli.

Putting speakers on the back of a grand cabinet only make the sound projection a little bit different. Tone is the same as in Roland's upright design cabinets, for instance.

The RD800 is close enough, it's based off a sample of the V-piano grand (dunno why they dont directly use the modelled sound instead). In the RD-2000, I think this sounds closest to "Mellow Concert", or Concert Grand with -2 character

Eventually symphony orchestras will start using them when an artist like this sounds so good on it and travels with his own. There are many advantages to these pianos (they stay in regulation, they stay in tune, etc.) and they, especially Rolands sound like a very well regulated 9 foot piano, better than many. The Roland digital harpsichords are also amazing (I own one) and they can go from standard to old pitch instantly, can play as loud or bright as you like and never need tuning. The feel is truly revolutionary as well. Roland is my favourite digital piano, although there are others nearly as good.

Don't forget that, first and foremost, your brain is aware it isn't a real piano; secondly, you are listening to it through another device; thirdly, performances - even live one these days - tend to have their sound edited to portray a "specific sound," a trademark, if you will... to the point where sometimes it sounds like all Deutschegrammophon artists play on the same studio piano, which can't possibly be true. Every time I go to see a live performance, I am always amazed how differently a recording of a piano or a violin sounds when compared to the real thing. In short, we are slowly losing the sound of what a real 7/9-foot piano sounds like unless we frequent the concert hall or are wealthy enough to have one at home, and this in itself, along with the cheap manufacture that even companies like Steinway have given to (Boston, Essex pianos), will open up the way for these instruments to become the "upright of the 21st century."

bigPianist99 No shit that a real grand sounds more alive. Kawai MP11 doesn't even offer as many customization as the V-Piano. The V-Piano basically lets you build your own custom piano sound from scratch.
@bigPianist99
@bigPianist99 9 жыл бұрын
raykrislianggi - AniMusic No pianist needs as much customisation. Hey, Im not a "Oldschool is better than technology" kinda guy, more like the opposite, but when it comes down to pure sound and sound Emulation, no current technology can digitally emulate an acoustic piano. The Kawai sounds very synthetic in the upper octaves, but works as a silent practice piano on road trips due to the well built keyboard. But the Roland is even worse: It sounds very static, synthetic, kinda "too perfect" to sound good. And lets not even talk about what acoustic grands you could get at that pricepoint, way to much for what you get btw.
