Hi, l hit the original p790 from 2017. I am looking to upgrade to this year's version so I'm enjoying your comparison videos. However you are hitting and comparing 7 irons? What has attracted me to this year's version of the p790 is the inner setup of the different irons through the set! I would like to hear your thoughts around efficiency as you move to different irons throughout the set? Kind regards Paul

There are so many good iron choices out there at the moment. The technology improvements combined with the way manufacturers are designing iron models to be blended is awesome. Mizuno 225/223. Srixon Zx5/Zx7. TM 790/P7MC. Titleist T200/T150. Callaway Apex Pro/CB. Ping 525/230.

The list is becoming much more not individual iron reviews but more so how different individual irons can be blended into a more efficient bag setup 👍🏻

Really appreciate this review and comparison. Thanks so much. You say you prefer the 225 because you are a blade player, but the 225 isn't a blade. It has a forged 4135 Chromoly face and neck and a 431 stainless steel back. So yes, it may be marginally softer and duller in sound than the P790, but it is not by any stretch a forged blade. I play traditional forged blades and have done so for 25 years, so can appreciate your preference. Initially I did not like the original P790 or that all the club makers were producing stronger lofts so you could pretend you could hit your 7 iron, now at 28.5 degrees, as far as your previous old 5 iron. But I have hit the 2023 P790 and find the sound and feel are pleasantly crisp but not tinny-clicky like earlier hollow irons, and have to admit they are nice. On the launch monitor, I hit the 30.5 degree P790 7 iron a good 10 yards further carry than my 34 degree forged blade, but also 10 feet higher with the same or better descent angle. That's good stuff. I also prefer the matte finish to shiny, looks modern and won't reflect sunlight into eyes. BTW also really like the Titleist T150 even more than the T200. At the moment my budget doesn't allow for buying new irons, though I would probably keep my forged PW, 52, 56 and 60 degree wedges as I really like them, and, since I have Driver, 3, 5, 7 and 9 woods, just get 6, 7, 8, and 9 irons. My 24 degree 9W would replace the 23.5 degree 5 iron and my 21 degree 7W would replace the 21 degree 4 iron. But not inexpensive. If you want just four irons, have to customize order. With TT Dynamic Gold 95 R300 shafts and Golf Pride MCC +4 midsize grips, it would come to $846 plus shipping, or over $200 per iron.

Enlightening to see that the heel strike basically doubles the runout of both, although by one yard more for the 225. That's nasty, means ball ran off the back into the lake or river or deep rough or down into the ravine.

P790 cutaway looks quite advanced and the performance shows. Well done. I would consider this the gamers distance category, maybe 10 -18 handicap. Players distance would be P770, maybe 4 - 12 handicap. A comparison with ZX5 MKII or T200 would be great. Thanks for the top notch work.

P790 is def players distance this years model just fits more of a range because they did such a good job in my opinion. P770 def players irons I would put them in the same category as apex pro 21 which is what I game now. Went for a fitting and am seriously thinking about moving out of my players irons and to the new p790 I'm a 6-7 handicap. They blew me away during the fitting. But to your point alot of high handicaps are going to struggle still hitting the new p790 if they can't hit down on the ball. Def more players distance.

@jabbawakkii8106 they create a really impressive launch angle and that is due to the amount of tungsten I'm use now. What will be interesting also is the new Mizuno Pro 245 that will be coming out soon, that has nearly 50 grams of tungsten that will surely bring it in line or possibly overtake the P790s launch abilities..... Fun times ahead 😊

I have the gen 1 version of the p790 and use them now and again when i struggle with my Mp20 mmc’s. The TM are good clubs, but no mizuno’s

You are right that if you consistently strike the ball way out on the toe and then way in at the heel you need lessons and practice. However, it is IMHO very nice to know that on the occasion when hitting an approach to a par four or a tee shot to a short par 3 you suddenly lose your balance a bit or, not being a super well coordinated athlete, you get out of sync with your backswing and downswing and to your consternation hit a shot way on the toe, the P790 will come to your rescue better than the 225 and you may even manage to hit the green. TM has done some remarkable engineering inside its irons.

Hi, i love your review they are the best on youtube! Have you got any plans to review the Titleist T150? It's a club i'm very interested in. Thanks

Is the older club cheaper? Because that may well be the selling point over such small gains physically

Jay, another fantastic review, what month do you expect to have 245 available for review? Thanks

That a great question and one that really depends on the supply chain. I know embargo is very early 2024 but not sure at what time media samples will be with me 🤷

Good stuff! This is useful. What shafts did you use for the tests? Could the differences in performance change or disappear with a different shaft in each of the clubs?
@AskGolfNut
@AskGolfNut Жыл бұрын
Not for me unfortunately as I'm not shaft sensitive and aren't affexted by either weight or bend profile. But in normal situations, all manner of changes can be had by changing shafts. Just for info the 225 had a PX IO 5.5 and the P790 has KBS Tour Stiff 👍🏻

I've always played Mizuno, all golfers have their personal choice about the brand they like to wear and Mizuno just happens to be my own. It's never stopped me from being honest and totally unbiased about my reviews as I'm not contacted or paid by them. That's what I prefer as it allows me to continue delivering the content I do with knowledge that my findings and conclusions are honest and transparent and always with the golfer in mind 👍🏻 Thanks for the comment and for watching, don't forget to subscribe and share the channel to all your fellow golfers 👍🏻

Mizuno, should launch a new 245 anytime soon, so wait and see? TM have gone early with the new P790 and of course are getting appropriate reviews. However February is no time away, and there will be a myriad of new competitors.

Thanks for the vid Jay, I truly think all club makers have stretched there improvements on irons as far as they can legally go so you won't see massive differences between Makes in the respected classes of irons. What I think we will see more of is what TM done with the original stealth irons is reduce sweat spot efficiency and brining it up all over the face. unless they can come up with some new super material I can't really see what can be done with current regulations. As with the pro game and the proposed ball changes next year.

A key point is the P790 stopped a yard quicker than the 225 due to its higher trajectory and steeper descent angle despite (or maybe because of) having lower spin.
@Snowoff
@Snowoff Жыл бұрын
It wouldn’t stop faster because of lower spin.
@AskGolfNut
@AskGolfNut Жыл бұрын
@Snowoff spin is a bit of a misunderstanding especially outside of large lofted irons/wedges. Outside of PW to LW, the normal clubs have spin rates that effect climb of flight for sure but mainly it's there for control of distance and consistency of flight rather than any real stopping power. What will be really interesting to test would be that of the new Mizuno Pro 245 that has twice the amount of tungsten than the 225 so launch and forgiveness should be much improved 👍🏻 Thanks for the comment and for watching 👍🏻

Love the review. I just tested T200s, P790s, 225s and the PXG Gen 6P. 225 won hands down. But the issue is the 245 is coming out soon, and it looks like it’s an early 2024 release. Do you think I get the 225s now or wait until the 245s? It’s heading towards the end of the season here, and by the time the 225s get here, it might be only 6 weeks before the season ends. I hit them so well, better than any iron I’ve ever hit. Thanks!
@AskGolfNut
@AskGolfNut Жыл бұрын
The 245s do have a larger tungsten lump in them so could potentially give more low strike forgiveness and also initial launch help. They will be more expensive for sure, so depending on what you need from the 225s, I'd possibly go for this year's version of you hit them that well 👍🏻

had the 225 - 100% agree on looks, feel is very subjective but other than that - unless you are buying off the shelf - Mizuno's abysmal delivery time has turned away so many loyal customers.

Agree 100%. I ordered my JPX 923 forged 2 weeks ago. I messaged PGA pro shop to get an update and they said estimated time of arrival is more like 5 weeks..... Not sure if i'll stick around for mizuno again if this is going to be the new norm....@@mitchy7051
