In this video, Emil and Lars discuss some of the craziest and fastest Japanese running shoes of 2023, the Mizuno Wave Rebellion Pro 2 and Flash 2.
These are tempo, interval, and racing shoes made specifically with an exaggerated rocker, that gives a very unique and fun running gait. They both are running shoes with plates in them, and they are both for faster running. But do they work?
Are these the best new tempo running shoes of 2024? They are at least some of the most crazy. Check out what Emil and Lars are saying in the video above.

I've tested version 1 of the Wave Rebellion Pro at the running track. You'll get the most of benefits from these shoes if you are a midfoot striker. Regrettably, as a forefoot striker, I was 42 seconds slower on a 5K, compared to the fastest pair of carbon plated shoes Peba/Pebax midsole based I've previously tested, which were the Puma Deviate Nitro Elite v.1.

Question : Are the rebelliom flash 2 good for daily training??? I have boston 12 for my fast daily training, i'm looking flash2 for daily training with slow to fast pace

I would consider the Boston 12 more a daily trainer than the Flash 2. If you ask me, the Flash 2 is more a tempo shoe that some might use for races as well. Lars

Hey Carli. It could be used to walk in, but the rocker is quite extreme compared what I'm used to at least. So it's not my first choice for walking to be frank. Lars

Can Flash 2 be treated as 1/2 mar of marathon shoe. Not spending so much for carbons , can I use them for 3:30h marathon ?

Hey Chomarek, The Flash 2 can definetely be used for a marathons. I would be in the same category as a Saucony Endorphin Speed 4. Fast, durable, but maybe not as soft as some of the carbons. Lars

​ hey @chomarek In general, you can run all types of runs in all kinds of shoes. But If you run in a lot of shoes, like I do, then there is quite a big difference in what each shoe is best at. My legs are more sore after an interval with a heavy shoe, and while marathon shoes are superior at keeping higher paces they aren't always the best if you have a technical course with many turns. The more versatile a shoe is, the lighter it often is, and thus you won't get a lot of durability from it. There are always tradeoffs to running shoes, and that is why shoes often are segmented as only this and only that. It could be viewed as marketing to some, and most won't have enough shoes to feel all the differences. So I think a nice rule would be to think of these descriptions as suggestions, more than facts. Speed 4 if you want a bit more comfortable ride, and the Flash if you want a more aggresive rocker. Both are great, but different. Lars

Hey. Flash 2 is closer to an Endorphin speed 3 than a Boston 12, but the rocker is more pronounced than any of those shoes. A very unique experience that works at speed. Both the shoes you are mentioning work better at slower paces compared to the flash 2. The Boston 12 feels more like a conversational running shoe for daily training, if you ask me, and the speed 3 has a softer heel than the flash 2 (because the flash 2 doesn’t have one 😂). Lars

@@subhi2698 The Takumi sen is more light and aggressively stiff. It is just fast, while the Flash 2 is heavier, but should last a bit longer as a tempo shoe. The uppers are also widely different, with the Flash 2 being much easier to put on and more comfortable, and Takumi being lighter but less accommodating. If it was up to me, I would use the Takumi for race and Flash 2 for faster training. Lars

@@RunningXpert another question is that, now Im using 25.5cm for flash 2 and its fits me tts, If I were to get a Boston12, will I have to go half size down to 25cm? How does this fit compare to Boston 12?

​@@subhi2698 According to personal experience, I have been able to go from a US 11 to a US 11 in both shoes without any issues. I am though very used to running in shoes with a bit more space, so I am not as sensitive to tiny size changes. But I see on our size guide that the doesn't work the same in both men's and women's sizes. So depending on what 25cm you are wearing this might be different. @@subhi2698 haha.. My bad. I just haven't looked properly at your comment :D There are some big differences. AP3 is a lot less lively, more stable, and only has a rocker in the front. The Rebellion Pro 2 is very bouncy in the midfoot, more lively and unstable, and pushes the hips forward in a different way. Both are great shoes, but AP3 is more a "normal" feeling shoe compared to the Rebellion Pro 2. Lars
