@@danwayment6842 I think Caroline is not quite right in the head yet. Her three pointers are a little off, just enough to hit the rim and bounce away. Azzi's just go swish. Both are going to be amazing before the leave UCONN.

The tempo was great and after the other game this may have just left them a bit tired. The defensive aggression is a shock to teams which haven't faced anything like that. The early 3pt shooting was so-so, but once the ball possession got better it was a pretty smooth cruise. DeBerry can do something very weird with her fingers. Lots of fun to watch if you aren't a Hoya fan. Oh I almost forgot, they're very happy together as a team. No dancing, but they like to play this way.

What elements of the way Geno has the team playing are geared toward getting ready for South Carolina? - The press? - The 2-3 zone? Thoughts?
@alexroberson44542 жыл бұрын
I would say the press for sure because South Carolina has been known to turn the ball over quite a bit. The two three zone could also give South Carolina some issues because outside of Zia and Henderson they don't really have players who can hit those outside shots with much consistency.
@gregb12372 жыл бұрын
@@alexroberson4454 I was thinking that if the press didn't turn SC over, it would give SC less time on the shot clock to get the ball into Boston.

Time to grant playing time based on fewest turnovers/minute played. There are a couple players that still play lazy and make too many unforced errors, passing the ball to nonexistent teammates, traveling, missed layups, failing to go after the ball when it’s passed to you, dribbling into double- and triple-teams, traveling ( yes again ), etc.. Just way too many low-BB-IQ plays being made by just a couple players. Everyone can contribute positively, it’s a talented team, but lazy play leading to silly give-aways will end the season prematurely. It’s a triple negative, 1) you lose a chance to score, 2) you give your opponent an unearned opportunity to score, and 3) it’s demoralizing to the team. Points are hard to come by, so you can’t afford to give them away so easily, especially against real good teams. Time to start minimizing the negatives by limiting some playing time because there is so much good available from so many players now. Some tough decisions will have to be made.

My one concern. As good as this UCONN team is...and when they're on, they're very, very good...with the possible exception of Evina...this team doesn't have the kind of senior leadership that UCONN teams of the past did. Something's missing in that regard. I don't see it in Christyn or Olivia, despite how talented they are. Don't forget, Christyn was National Player of the Year in the entire country when she came out of high school. Leadership is as much dependent upon temperament as it is on maturity.
@lastonestanding34172 жыл бұрын
Luke, sometimes, in my opinion, leadership might come from unlikely sources. Leadership may not, maybe in the case of this team, be synonymous with seniors. Again, in my opinion, the leadership of this team is yet to be determined. I really agree with you that leadership "is as much dependent upon temperament as it is on maturity." (Hope you're doing well, Luke. Be safe, stay healthy.)
@luke35012 жыл бұрын
@@lastonestanding3417 I completely agree with you LOS. Paige is a an obvious leader for obvious reasons. In their own distinct ways both Ducharme and Azzi are leaders. I love their mindsets. Nika is more of a cheerleader. Just never saw any of that out of Olivia or Christyn. Not even now. Perhaps my expectations of them were unfair.

@@luke3501 I don't think you were unfair. We expect seniors would be the natural leaders. The culture and expectation at UConn has always been as you said, and if I'm understanding correctly; at UConn freshman learn and contribute where they can, seniors lead because they've earned the position through time in the system, hard work and performance. This group might be changing that dynamic, so they are working through a lot of stuff besides the injuries. Just my observations.

OK, I was looking for a way to capture the highest high points of the game & it turns out that when a UConn player steals the ball from a Georgetown player, and then drives the length of the court, and makes a WNBA move to score a lay-up is very sexy. Hats off to Niki, Kristian, & Alyia. However, Sweet Caroline tapped the ball away & drained a three to blow my mind out. Now, it's going to take a steal & a dunk to blow out all my circuit breakers and I think I know who will do it: Alyia Edwards. Imagine the impact of a steal, floor length drive, and dunk would have in a packed house in Stors. That would be enough to get every 13-year-old girl to scream. It might even be enough to get a Gator-Aid contract for Alyia. Imagine that.
