Before this, Mel Gibson was known for being in "Mad Max" (1979) and it's sequels "The Road Warrior" (1981) and "Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome" (1985), "Gallipoli" (1981) about the ANZACs in WW1, and "The Bounty" (1984) about the famous mutiny. Just after "lethal Weapon, he was in "Tequila Sunrise", "Bird on a Wire", and "Air America".

My general theory was that the Captain did know Riggs was suicidal, but didn't agree that taking him off work would help. He was ultimately right as Riggs self admits that work is the only thing that stops him from pulling the trigger. I'll add to that. The Captain pushed Riggs to be Murtaugh's partner, as a means of a stabilization force. Murtaugh has been on the force for many years and has been in tough situations (being a war vet, which Riggs can also relate). Murtaugh also has a family, which Riggs adopts as his own, making him stable once again.

my friend had a dvd deleted scene-a deranged shooter is shooting randomly near a school and Riggs shows up-asks about who he's shooting and realizes he isn't a good shot.....he walks right through the gunfire head on and takes him out with one shot...

Yes, keep going with the Lethal Weapon series! A lot of folks like the 2nd better than the 1st, but all 4 are entertaining. Also, Riggs and Murtaugh and Roger's entire family are the same actors - you get to watch his kids grow up and Riggs becoming part of his family.

Lethal Weapon 2 is even better! The general was trying to get the grenades away from the fire so they wouldn't blow up, but he couldn't reach them. Roger's house is the same house as the Griswolds' in National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. Mel Gibson's first hit movie role was as Mad Max (1979). I first saw him in the sequel, Road Warrior. They put white in Danny Glover's hair to make him look the age of a cop ready to retire.

First 2 are great, but u have to watch all 4, to get closure! The best buddy cop series is 48 hours!!! The first movie changed film forever! Also, I'ma do a screwball one, The Other Guys, Turner and Hooch! But this and 48 hours changed movies, music, soundtracks, buddy/cop movies, comedy, race relations, forever! Also a hillarious cameo takes place in Mel's movie, Maverick!😅

Mel Gibson's directing the fifth Lethal Weapon, which I'm stoked about! He and his screenwriter will hopefully be able to bring the franchise back to its more dramatic 'gritty' roots with LW I and II (but especially the first movie). Curious to see how Danny Glover reprises his role, too. He's very long in the tooth to put it politely (REALLY too old for this shit) Mel said he wants to pay homage to his friend the late Richard Donner, so I think he'll do it properly.

Yes, watch all 3 of the sequels too. They each have their own merits ... and none of them are like the others, other than having the same characters and general "cop vs bad guy" storylines. That's the good thing about them ... they're not just more of the same, but individual stories and each bring in new, fresh characters to love.

Before Mel Gibson was cast as Martin Riggs, Patrick Swayze, William Hurt, Mickey Rourke, Christopher Lambert (Lamb bear), Sylvester Stallone, Michael Biehn, Robert DeNiro, Al Pacino, Nicolas Cage, Bruce Willis, Kevin Costner, Kurt Russell, Michael Nouri, Charlie Sheen, Harrison Ford, Nick Nolte, Matthew Broderick, Sean Penn, Michael Douglas, Val Kilmer, Tom Cruise, Jeff Bridges, Alec Baldwin, Tom Selleck, John Travolta, Liam Neeson, Dennis Quaid, Pierce Brosnan, and James Belushi were considered. Brian Dennehy, Nick Nolte, Clint Eastwood, Warren Beatty, Paul Newman, Jack Nicholson, Dustin Hoffman, Robert Duvall, and Al Pacino were considered for Roger Murtaugh. David Bowie, James Woods, Christopher Walken, John Lithgow, John Saxon, Stephen Lang, Ron Perlman, Keith Carradine, Scott Glenn, and Tommy Lee Jones were considered for Joshua. Riggs kills Joshua by ripping out his eyes with his two fingers. Riggs was an assassin trained by the CIA and had been mentally unstable since the Vietnam War ended. Murtaugh actually killed a fellow soldier in training with his bare hands before he left to fight in Vietnam.

Mel Gibson was in a few movies before this one. The ones that really made him known to American audiences were the Mad Max movies; Mad Max The Road Warrior Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome When talking about underrated actors, I have to point out Kurt Russell. He played the leader of the arctic outpost in The Thing, a badass in Escape from New York, an almost mute soldier in Soldier, a silly goofball in Captain Ron. He can blend into almost any role and it's hard to believe that it's the same person playing all these different parts.

The first Mel Gibson movie I know of is Mad Max from 79 I think. That’s a great series that you should review. It includes mad max, the road warrior, Mad Max, beyond Thunderdome, Mad Max, fury Road, but that one does not include Mel Gibson.
