Thank you so much, MJ! I'm currently working through this pattern and tutorial. There's one part that I've reached that is unclear to me and I was hoping you might be able to help get me back on track: For the back, you do 44 rows, but then you add the two additional rows for the right and left shoulder. So, that first piece is 46 rows total (with a gap in rows 45/46 for the neck). So far, so good. I'm unclear about the front panels... The instructions for those also go to 44, BUT when we start to sew them to the shoulder we're now matching up a piece that is 46 rows (when we include the two 45/46 rows for the shouder) to a piece that is 44 rows. I thought perhaps those extra rows are compensated for when we attach the arms, but that doesn't seem to be the case because the instructions for attaching the arm piece is to have it centered with the shoulder seam. If we do that and then fold it over, then our front panel remains two rows too short compared to the back. As we work the seam past the armpit attaching the panel to the back, we will come up short, right? I'm sorry if you addressed this in the tutorial and I just missed the explanation. Thanks in advance! I'm looking forward to finishing the pattern! 🙂

I'm looking through the pattern, and think I've made a mistake. I would add two additional rows to the front panels so that the panels line up. Thank you for pointing that out.

Do I count the single crochet, row as the first row, or am I starting counting only, when doing the extended single crochet? Thank you so, much.

Hi MJ do you have any plans to make a man's pullover sweater? Would be really nice if you did.
@kaylaburk9256 Жыл бұрын
Very easy and simple to follow video/pattern! My only concern is that I followed your video to make a large cardigan (my husband is similar build/height as your husband) however when complete, my cardigan looks like a child’s size cardigan. It is tiny! This is for my husband’s birthday and I’m afraid he won’t fit in it. Nonetheless it was very fun and quick to make!
@mjsoffthehook Жыл бұрын
Was your gauge correct?
@kaylaburk9256 Жыл бұрын
Yes. I used #5 yarn and used the 6.5mm hook for ribbing and 8mm hook for remainder
@mjsoffthehook Жыл бұрын
Was the number of stitches and rows equal to the gauge and the finished measurements the same as the schematic? Did you use the same yarn? The #5 I used is more like a #6. My husband is 6’1 and 190lbs. So if everything is the same the sweater should be the correct size.
@kaylaburk9256 Жыл бұрын
I didn’t use the same yarn as we don’t have a store around that carries that brand. I just thought you could use any size 5 yarn but sounds like I should have used a 6 instead.
@mjsoffthehook Жыл бұрын
@@kaylaburk9256 Not necessarily; every yarn is different, so the gauge is the most important factor when making garments. Some #6 yarns would be too thick. I always give a sub-list on the blog for yarns that I think will work. You can also use yarnsub.com
@rae05214 күн бұрын
I just bought your pattern (an excellently constructed document) and have been doing swatches trying to "make gauge." I couldn't get the yarn you used so I purchased Paton's Inspiration Bulky #5 thinking that would be close enough. Well, it's been a DAY now trying all sorts of hooks, I'm up to a #10 hook (Susan Bates) to make gauge for the esc, and a #9 for the ribbing. I was going nuts! Then I read through the comments and saw where you "mentioned" that your Mary Maxim Titan is nearly a 6 bulky not a 5. Before I spend a month following your pattern should I abandon my Paton's yarn and get something closer to 6 bulky, or will just increasing hook size work out OK? Thanks in advance for a reply. "Old guy in New Brunswick"
@mareeenglish81688 ай бұрын
I love the look of this pattern. Its going to be my next project, I'll be making it for my husband. I just wanted to ask why the Cardigan is crocheted in pieces and then stitched. I'm not a fan of stitching crochet or knitted pieces together and thought that perhaps this cardigan could have been crocheted in one piece and split when it comes to shaping the shoulders and left and front openings. That would mean only the shoulders and the arms would need stitching together, do you think that would be possible to do?
@williamwalace625 Жыл бұрын

Oh no!! Are you working 46 rows? Do you have a different brand of crochet hook you can try? Different brands of hooks will change your gauge. For example if I use a 6mm Furls streamline hook my gauge will come out totally different than if I use a 6mm dots crochet hook. Or I would suggest trying the “golden loop” technique to lengthen your stitches. Here is a helpful tutorial from my friend Bella coco crochet kzbin.info/www/bejne/gIS3k52gZbV7sLssi=FR224w9IDXdDUh4i I hope this helps!
