What would happen if you carried the ends up rather than cutting? And then added a border? Would this work for the mosaic technique?

If that was possible I would have but it is not. You have to cut the yarn at the end of each row and restart from the right side. You would have so so many tails to carry up the side and you would have to cut them very long. You could potentially do this pattern as inset mosaic it would elongate the pattern though.

I would stick with yarns around worsted weight #4. If using bulky yarn it may be way to thick. Right now I am loving Heatherly worsted from WeCrochet which is perfect for baby blankets. Any super soft yarn or yarn marked as Baby yarn is suitable for a baby, I would stay away from rough wools like alpaca (they tend to be scratchy) And no, I don’t think mosaic blankets are heavier though they could be depending on the weight of the yarn. She says chain multiples of 8 then plus 2 so I would suggest chaining the amount u need measured against a queen, round up to a multiple of 8 then add 2
