There is a book about the movie I just got today. I learned the actor that kills montana "Wallace" almost did not get the part because he had a heart condition he acted in comedy tv shows in his early years. He ended up passing away the day after filming the scenes killing Montana and meeting Bonafied in the interrogation room.

The soap that they washed away in the sink at the end was the mold of the BGA comb. Miklo was behind the killing of Montana. He set every thing up. That’s why I was a lil confused when u said it had useless scenes. This movie didn’t waste any scenes imo. Everything mattered. It’s one of the best 3hr movies I’ve ever seen.

One of the writers of this movie (and supposedly the largest influence on the final version), Jimmy Santiago Baca, was a respected Chicano poet who had done time in San Quentin, and a lot of what ended up in the movie is based on his own experiences. The director was a respected figure in film making, who had previously done An Officer and a Gentleman. The movie was filmed in part at San Quentin itself, using actual inmates as extras. There was some serious power there. So yes, those locations were as real as it gets. Those cells were that small. One actor in the movie, the legendary Danny Trejo, actually did time in San Quentin back in the day, before he got his life together. His interviews about filming there are an interesting watch. The three gangs in the prison, La Onda, the BGA, and the AV, are based on three real gangs, the Mexican Mafia, the Black Guerilla Family, and the Aryan Brotherhood. The story doesn't "end" at the end of the movie because, like with The Godfather, the chapter may be over but the story goes on. A lot of people focus on the flaws of the movie, and there are flaws. But many more find something in it, and it's become a significant film to many in the Chicano community. Back when it came out, I was the movie reviewer for my college newspaper in Fresno, CA. The producers wanted to preview the movie in Los Angeles, but they were worried about it because of some real-life events going on at that time, so they decided instead to do it in the second-biggest gang city in the state, Fresno. They held a press screening, where about 10 or so of us (reviewers) watched the film, and then immediately after we went to a conference room at a local hotel where they had two big, round tables set up, and a really nice Mexican buffet. They divided us into two groups, one at each table, with empty seats between us. They then brought in Hackford, Baca, and a good chunk of the cast (I don't remember exactly who was there, but I know it included Damian Chapa (Miklo), a then-unknown Benjamin Bratt (Paco), and Enrique Castillo (Montana), because I specifically remember talking to them sitting next to me at the table). They took the empty chairs, and talked with us about the movie while eating that good food. This was a group of people who really seemed to believe in the film they had made, and were proud of it. They also all seemed like really nice people, so it was a bit odd to be sitting next to them and chatting over some nice food immediately after seeing them portray such intense characters in the movie. Definitely a memorable experience. The way they told it to us, they had shown the film to some people involved in the Chicano gang culture there in Fresno, and one young man broke down in tears, saying that what he saw onscreen was himself. The film remains important to many people.

I used to live there when I was 4 years old, then decided to go back when I was 30, and even though I was family, I was still the white guy (even though my skin is brown). I was called "coconut" which I thought was funny so it never bothered me. One day I was talking to an old army buddy (he's 100% Guamanian) on the phone, when I told him about the coconut thing, he tells me that he's been called that too because like me he grew up mostly in the states. He says they call us coconut because we're brown on the outside, and white on the inside. I couldn't help but laugh my ass off. I wouldn't change anything though, I love both sides of who I am.

The original movie was almost 5 hours, but the studio wanted it cut to 2hrs. They later came to agree on 3 hrs. According to actors and director, the 5 hour could of been split into 2 movies as the actors signed contracts to make 2 films. Disney owns the rights to the movie and hopefully one day theyll release to entire film, since every year more ppl become more vocal about its release. Montanas right hand man is the one who wrote the movie. You dont see him later on in the movie because in the footage not released he gets killed. Theres lots of pictures online of unseen footage.

@ganmu3970
@ganmu3970 Ай бұрын
Not because he thought he was weak, if not because the decisions of Montana were going to bring them all down, what happened to the AVs and BGA, it's what slowly the AVs were doing against La Onda, plus taking their soldiers, just using them, AVs are supremacists. BGA and AVs were into what Miklo wanted to take part, trafficking and Montana didn't approve. Some people doesn't understand this movie, they think it's simply about a struggle of power or gangs are good, that's why you thought Miklo considered Montana weak. This movie shows the bad parts of a crime life and the death of Montana is one of those examples. The real prison gangs do similar things.

I got you, but, being a full blooded Latino, it'd be the US view of it. Being a Latino is about the culture. Not talking about you, I saw cases of people born & raised in the US and they could have parents that their families came from some Latin American country, but they just were your average US citizen in the sense of culture. Latin America has people from probably all the parts of the world living in it, migration always happened, since colonial times and later. During the industrial era, the American dream it wasn't only migrating to the US, if not to all the continent of America, because most countries were thriving in those years or they had jobs and places like Europe weren't doing well. Others promoted migration mainly from Europe, because of the eurocentrism of the region and their leaders. Corruption and bad planning took all that potential. Where I live there were migrations from Germany, Japan and Croatia for the most part, from colonial times, Spanish, Portuguese, the indigenous people and African descendants. People meets each other, they form families, it's that simple. During school, I could have classmates of any looks, I had friends of different looks. The way it works in different parts of Latin America. Blood in Blood out is well liked in Latin America by those who watch it, because it represents the region in the sense of culture and lifestyle. Remember that line of Miklo "The crossroads of the world. A Latino world!" In short, that says what I said above. Miklo's character represents Latin America well. Real life guy that inspired his character it was a man with both parents who migrated from Croatia, he born in the US, but he lived and loved the Latin culture, so a Latino.

at the end. they are getting rid; of the mold; that they made; of bonafides comb; with the soap. Mikolo had montana killed. so he could take over. montana was killed; by his own people. mikolo thought montana; was getting soft. And he thought; if he didn't do somehting. the aryans would take over. It's a dirty game Blood in; blood out !

The fact that you reacted to this movie. I love your channel. I'm not even Mexican at all and it's one of my favorite movies of all time. I used to watch this after school everyday with my sister back in like 2008. 😂 I swear I love this Movie and one of the only reasons I started watching this was because I loved Benjamin Pratt who plays "Paco" and also my sister was married to a Salvadoran and Mexican and he showed her the movie and then showed us.. along with American Me which I saw you reacted to as well ❤ I LOVE THIS REACTION.

Said culture is Aztec from South Mexico before Spanish Conquistadors cross-bred them into Mexicans, along with language and Catholic religion, but the proudest Brown Priders, even the Brown Berets, still hold true to their Aztec roots. Watch music video of Kid Frost, Viva La Raza, which means The People, from 1991 for powerful proof.
