Brilliant video, very clear too! I’m envious of how clean and tidy your garage is. Awesome stuff.

Inlet cam is double the tq of the exhaust. Also you don’t tighten the cam pulleys until after belt is tensioned.
@performanceclassics19862 жыл бұрын
I do remember loosening off cam pulley bolts to allow the belt to drop on pulleys properly. It’s been so long ago now I can’t remember everything too clearly. With regards to the torques, my mate who is a ford technician has the official ford technical data, and that’s what I used.

Hi mate, great looking motor . I know what you mean with them heater boxes, I modified one for my mk1 Zetec Escort van using caravan electric heaters and used a thermo fan from a motorbike instead of the original fan blower, only went this way cause the Zetec head interferes with the water pipes and I'd changed the shape of the heater bubble, ended up putting a variable dial for the fan cause when on full blast it sends the vents over my shoulder into the loading bay lol 👍

I thought that you had to a bar in the slots at the back across both cams to make sure they are perfectly trimmed up..

For that engin you need a zetec blacktop can belt kit , that’s what you eventually got regards Tony iv built 3 of them in various stage of tune for my Mk indy hill climb car
@performanceclassics19864 жыл бұрын
Thanks Tony i will remember that. Good info. Thanks for that 👍 all the motor factors just said we don’t do a kit for the ST engine 🤷♀️

This no keyway thing is strange.... but watched one engine set with a special pin to locate the crank at TDC (like yours) and parallels to set the camshafts, then the Cambelt was fitted and tensioner released before the pulley nuts/bolts tightened to set the relationship between all three shafts afterwards.....😳

Great videos you have mate, I’m just about to redo the cam seals and a new belt. Do you know where I could find the torque settings?

Thanks very much. Is your engine also an ST 170??
@81adamlittle4 жыл бұрын
As far as I'm aware the pulleys for the timing belts on the 170 engine are main dealer only.
@performanceclassics19864 жыл бұрын
adz81 Its been a nightmare but ive got there now and its all built up. Ive been told that the cam-belt kit for the ST170 is the same as the kit for a black top Zetec which are more readily available. I did eventually get that idler pulley from TMS motor spares and it was identical to the original. What a fight it was to find though. Ive made a note of all part numbers for future services

Hi... What ratio was your taller first gear for the T9? Thank you
@performanceclassics1986 Жыл бұрын
Hello Jason, that’s got me looking into old paperwork 🤣. That’s a long time ago. Originally first gear was apparently 3.65:1 and the conversion takes it to a more useable 2.98:1 Hope that helps

You may have already commented on this but what did the engine come out of? Was it out of a FWD or RWD?
@performanceclassics19863 жыл бұрын
It was out of a FWD MK1 ford Focus. It was s 2004 model. Most ST 170 engines were from around 2004

Craig I've got a pinto but been thinking of changing to a st 170, just not to sure at the moment, I have a rocket box, can this be used on the st?
@performanceclassics19864 жыл бұрын
Tony Aylott As far as im aware Tony, any gearbox that fits the pinto can also be used on the ST engine as the bell housing bolt pattern and input shaft are the same. Maybe do a bit of research first but i don’t see why not.

Did you get the head skimmed and cnc ported
@performanceclassics19863 жыл бұрын
All i did with the head james, was have it aqua blasted, re ground in all valves, fitted new valve step seals and thats it really. I did consider having a friend polish and port it but decided to just leave it alone. Its always something i can do in future if need be 😎
