Would you mind sharing a rough cost of a classic ford to st170 conversion. With those throttle bodies. I’m interested in getting good mpg as well as power. Which I don’t think webbers will achieve. Just the conversion ignoring the price of the engine and gearbox. So once those are bought the price to then get that running in my mk1 escort. Which currently has a 1.3 Crossflow. Many thanks
@performanceclassics19862 ай бұрын
@@simonmenzies3142 Without sitting down and working out every individual price, it would be a rough guess but you will need Throttle bodies, Engine management, an exhaust system, water rail, engine mounts, a sump, Flywheel and clutch. Using decent quality parts such as retro Ford, your probably looking at around £4000-£4500 but you could do it for cheaper using cheaper parts

It is the problem of the electronics for the injection etc that baffles me, who can work it out for you?
@performanceclassics19864 жыл бұрын
Graham Dawes When your fitting them into another car from the original, the standard ford engine management is very often thrown away and you then buy a kit specific to that particular engine such as an Omex system, motorsport electronics system etc. These come with a fully labeled wiring loom telling you what each individual cable is for eg what sensor each plug fits. You can also request that the engine control unit comes with a base map which is good enough to get the car running and then a rolling road test station can fine tune the map for ignition and fuelling to ensure the car runs as smoothly as the ford engine management but they are capable of bigger power gains than with the standard engine management. Both Retro ford and motorsport electronics do a bespoke kit for the ST170 and they also cover other engines such as the Zetec, Duratec, pinto, Xflow, cosworth etc.

ST170 focus are mega rare here in Australia,(225 units) so finding a motor is more rare ! Corey Kosoris Hello, thanks for your comment. Unfortunately i haven’t had any experience with the Duratecs. I know they are an alloy block, have chain driven cams rather than belt driven and from what ive heard they are capable of producing big power when the engine internals are upgraded. they use almost the same bottom end at the sierra/granada 2.0 dohc engine, so is an easy swap, but there is the issue of the thermostat and im sure its a different shape to the zetec one so needs some form of adapter making, plus tuning the dohc/rs 2000 isnt easy. zetec gives more power for less money.
