When he said that the individual sounds by themselves seem thing and lacking in body and that its like sand running through your fingers, I couldn't quite place whether that was criticism or a compliment, because to me that's exactly what I love about the album. There is so much there, but when you take a closer look its actually not much and that's so cool.

Favorite album of the year so far. I think Anthony is right that this record is full of vocal and instrumental abstractions, however, that’s why it appeals to me. Not every artist has to have an album filled brim to brim with intricate thoughts and lyrical perspective. If there is no proper way to articulate your thoughts with words - focusing into offering genuine, raw (and yes, at times abstract) emotion is plenty fine with me

As a childhood friend of his, I can say that Mike’s been working for a very long time to get where he is and deserves more. He’s always been an incredible musician even at the beginning and also a very polite person. I think Anthony was already looking for something particular before listening to his album that he didn’t find. The abstract concepts of the album sonically are what make this record stand out, which is something most people on here are already mentioning. And if he’s going to mention Dijon’s work, he needs to also realize that Mike basically wrote and produced a huge portion of that record (I would say almost all of it). So yeah, did Fantano miss the point of the record? I would say more than partially yeah. Is it neat that he gave a review? Depends on who you ask really. Does this have any effect on Mike? Not even for a second. Keep being you Mike 💙.

I agree with some of Fantano's points, a lot of the songs peak and then fall off, and definitely leave some more on the table. However, I only really found that on the first listen. All the tracks that I liked first listen and easily on my daily repeat and I can't wait to go back through the whole album and find some more, but I do wish some of their crescendo'd a little more.

Time and time again I am amazed at how Fantano doesn’t really resonate with a lot of the more chiller more understated textures and vibes nowadays. He’s either really into “spicy” music or really well constructed pop with strong vocals. I knew listening to this album that he was going to give it something of a 5-6 when in my eyes this is a refreshing feat of music. Mk.Gee really did an amazing job of creating his own musical world with this one. I’ll be jamming to this one for years to come.

Going through and liking every comment on this. Huge miss for Fantano on this one but it warms my heart to see all you repping Mk.Gee like that🥲. One of the most shockingly beautiful musical creations I’ve ever heard in my life, and I’m glad Fantano is bringing more attention to it if nothing else.

This is an album that needs to be taken into account with the live performances in my opinion, and when you consider that, this review is pretty off the mark. Strong 8 at least.

Obviously, you didn't get it this time. To me this album is one of the most original work of this year... Mk.gee is very influential in terms of guitar sounds and production-wise. I have met many fellow-producers that think the same. peace

This is Mk.gee's 3rd album, not his debut. I love his first record. I feel like this one is an aquired taste that I'm slowing acquiring. I have huge respect for him as a musician and producer.

this mofo shows why mental chatter is so fucking distructive to feel: In the sprawling digital expanse where every opinion is amplified to its most grandiose form, there lies a particular KZbin album review that, despite its attempt to dissect and critique, becomes the epitome of what makes reviews so obnoxiously detached from the organic essence they seek to capture. The reviewer, armed with a vocabulary that might as well be plucked from the deepest annals of a thesaurus forgotten by time, endeavors to separate the wheat from the chaff with a precision that borders on surgical. Yet, in this meticulous endeavor, the review morphs into a showcase of mental gymnastics rather than a genuine engagement with the music. This review, adorned with an abundance of mental words, abstracts and dissects the album into components so minute and fragmented that it loses sight of the cohesive whole. The reviewer embarks on a quest to critique not just the music, but the very soul of the artist, employing terms that seem to transcend the mundane reality of mere sound waves hitting the ear. They speak of "sonic landscapes" and "auditory tapestries," phrases so laden with abstraction that they float away from the tangible experience of listening to music. The irony is palpable as the reviewer, in his zeal to be critically incisive, becomes enmeshed in his own web of verbosity. He fails to grasp the organic unity of the album, instead fixating on separating and categorizing its elements with an almost obsessive compulsion. This approach strips away the emotional resonance and raw impact of the music, leaving behind a sterile analysis that might impress for its intellectual acrobatics but ultimately falls short of capturing the heart and soul of the album. Moreover, the review becomes an unwitting parody of the very essence of critique. In its effort to be profoundly insightful, it embodies the quintessential obnoxiousness of reviews that prioritize mental masturbation over genuine appreciation and understanding. The language, dense and pretentious, serves not to elucidate but to obfuscate, creating a barrier between the listener and the music. It's a soliloquy that revels in its own cleverness, forgetting that at the heart of every album lies an emotional journey, a piece of the artist's soul rendered in melody and rhythm. In conclusion, this KZbin review becomes a masterclass in why reviews can be so obnoxiously detached from the art they critique. It's a cautionary tale of what happens when the act of reviewing becomes more about the reviewer's intellectual prowess than about the music itself. The review, in its labyrinthine complexity and abstract verbosity, becomes an emblem of the disconnect between the cerebral and the visceral, proving that sometimes, in the quest to critically dissect, we lose the ability to simply feel.

I'm calling it - if you're still doing this in ten years you'll call it one of the best albums of 2024. In my mind this is part of the birth of a new sub genre. I also think the next album will be twice as good. I think this is the Kid A before In Rainbows or For Emma before bon iver bon iver.
