Mk1 Cortina GT ep50! Modifying the mx5 shifter

Despite not finishing the tunnel panelling I wanted to get the gear selector position correct, it's a little too far forward for the GT centre console which is something I want to keep and not modify.

Thanks! I'm so happy it worked out as well as it has, I really didn't want to risk the gearbox not working by chopping the housing and relocating it.

Hi Stephen, Thanks for the kind words - I had been putting this off for a while, trying to think of a solution that wouldn't permanently damage the gearbox and I'm relieved it worked and how simple it was!

nailed that one mate,only tina officianardos would spot the now shorter gearstick,i bet it will drive great and now with an extra cog,liking your shirt,theres a company thats local to me with the same logo.

That turned out great. Helps me with my datsun gearbox that’s going into my Magnette.

That's interesting, are you keeping the MG engine? What datsun gearbox are you using?

@@jimbuilds I am at this stage, it’s in pretty good knick. If and when it wears out I may go for a swap, but we have crap laws here in NSW Australia. Can only go to 3 x mass natural or 2.5 charged so max 3L. No V8 swap for me 😞

I've heard about your rules on modifications, its good you can swap the gearbox and not need it certifying.

Looks fine, probably a better solution than shifting the engine and gearbox back particularly with the front well sump.

Thanks, I could do without the complications of shifting the engine! Although I am also modifying the sump but that's a story for another day!
