This is by far one the best builds I have ever followed,your approach is just perfect , function and durability are well thought out. You know what you want and your patience is paying off. Great job chap , keep chipping away at it

Excellent video on wiring and 1st class on what you have produced there. Your the first person who I've been able to understand on the wiring, relays and fuses. Again excellent content and workmanship Craig. All the best 👍

Thanks David. I do think that many people over complicate explaining things because they assume people know a lot already, where as i always try and start from the very basics so that even people who haven’t attempted it before, should hopefully understand. Only problem with that is it bores some people. Pleased i managed to achieve explaining that then 👍

@@performanceclassics1986 No pal. I had a lightbulb moment when watching it. I understand why a lot of older Ford's of that age catch fire. The wiring is simple enough in a Escort but even without looking at the wiring diagram now , there's a few bits not fused and even the switches should be on relays such as the wipers, lights, rear heated screen. Also as you mentioned the fuel pump, ecu, and radiator fans too. I thought I would mention too regarding the fuel cut out switch. Most ecu's will cut the fuel pump in the event of a accident etc. If you think about it it would be looking at the engine position sensor mainly. If the engine isn't reading a signal the pump stops too. The only other time the pump is on when the engine isn't spinning is when it priming the system and the ecu only let's it run for a few seconds.
@performanceclassics19863 жыл бұрын
@@davidgreen7841 great point David. My mate actually said exactly the same yesterday and your both absolutely right. Im now thinking that controlling both the cooling fan and fuel pump relays from the ECU are the way to go. I do like the idea of the ecu being in control of everything 😎

Great video Craig. Wiring is probably more important than any other part of the car as an electrical fire can destroy a very expensive car in minutes. Also a common source of retirement on rallies due to a simple poor connection that's not easy to trace at the side of the road. Another top quality job.

Nice job Craig, the wiring is just as important as the shiny bits and ultimately critical to the quality of the build. Well done, great series, great car. Live long and prosper young man! 👍🇬🇧😊

Thanks phil. I agree it is very important. So so many people hate wiring and therefore pay it very little attention.

Really pleased about that Ian. I always try and keep things simple because i always find that experts in their fields, always assume that everybody knows far more than they do so i try and start from basics so that people who haven’t done it before can hopefully gain something from it. Thanks Ian.

Nice. Enjoying the build. I had a Sierra 20i GLS back in the day. It broke down at exactly the same spot on my way to work on three separate occasions. It was on a steep hill. The fuel pump cutoff switch is in the spare wheel well. It had filled with water and when I drove up the hill the water sloshed back and shorted it. 😂😂. The joys of motoring.

That mounting bracket looks superb, well done. I remember working for Rover and getting a lot of 200s/400s come in on recovery trucks and all they need was the inertia switch button pressing. It was located under centre console and if I remember correctly you could pull ashtray out and squeeze your finger in to reset it.

Thanks Steve. Yeah they are a great safety device but can be a pain in the arse also 🤣. My mate hit a deer many years ago and afterwards his car wouldn’t start. I searched under the bonnet, found it, reset it and off he went with a fairly damaged bumper and bonnet 🤣

I haven’t actually got the power steering yet Peter but I’m going to be purchasing it shortly. Have a look at a company called Easy Steer or Mk2 mania . Relay for the lights ? Great vid by the way
@performanceclassics19863 жыл бұрын
Thanks 👍. Looking through the wiring diagrams, there was never relays fitted into the headlight circuits. I can only assume that the headlight switch is rated over 10amps because thats the headlight fuse rating. They actually pull less current than you think. Especially with the new lower consumption LED light filaments that ive now fitted 😎

@@performanceclassics1986 only needs to swing Down 5 or 6 inches so wires should be ok and you would be a lot happier and impressed with the result and your fabrication skills .A good lock would be required.
@performanceclassics19863 жыл бұрын
@@michaellecky6438 theres only 1 issue. The hinge down would be hugely restricted by the power steering motor. It would probably only hinge down an inch or 2 max 🤦♂️
@michaellecky64383 жыл бұрын
@@performanceclassics1986 would that be the case under all circumstances ,or could a newly designed fuse box backplate be made that would clear the power steering motor . Or as you are still in the process of installing and wiring why not put under dash on passenger side. Im not saying do this big but did you know you can now get mini consumer units for cars now with MCB type circuit breakers ..Retropowercars are gonna try one in one of their rebuilds
@performanceclassics19863 жыл бұрын
@@michaellecky6438 it would be difficult to re fabricate just due to room. Im thinking of fitting a glove box on passenger side, hence not fitting it on that side. Otherwise, passenger side would be a better option in fairness.
