Great to watch this - takes me back to '83 when I was 17 with my Mk 1 Escort LOU654L and all the hours respraying it black and 'improving' it. Wish I'd hung onto it.. think I sold it for 350 quid in '86..!

Check out the minder capri, that set on fire recently, that was caused by knackered wiring apparently,, more fuses the better and a fire extinguisher...👍

The fuel sender wire breaking away from the loom is probably due to the factory routing it towards the transmission tunnel and under the centre of the rear seat rather than going the longer way via the rear lights. The extra length and the point where it diverts from the main rear loom is the reason behind it.
@performanceclassics19864 жыл бұрын
1968spikey quite possibly yeah. Another possible reason somebody else highlighted, was it could be an Australian spec loom because the tank is directly behind the seat on Australian cars. We will probably never know but its now rectified 👍
@1968spikey4 жыл бұрын
@@performanceclassics1986 Do the maths, UK Ford sold 10 x more than Aussie Ford. GM did the same thing loom wise.
@frankmcgregor50324 жыл бұрын
I am almost certain you have a left hand drive model wiring loom. my Mk1 I had in early 70's ran rear loom up drivers side.
@performanceclassics19864 жыл бұрын
Frank McGregor Quite possibly Frank. According to Graeme at GS escorts, he thinks its an Australian spec loom 🤷♀️
@frankmcgregor50324 жыл бұрын
@@performanceclassics1986 That would explain it. Just have to extend fuel sender wire which ran up over the drivers side wheel arch.
@performanceclassics19864 жыл бұрын

Is it a left hand drive loom ? Hence fuel tank sender cable not long enough
@performanceclassics19864 жыл бұрын
lee reynolds i asked at GS escorts and they told me on the Australian spec cars, the fuel tank was right behind the bulkhead so they actually think its an Australian spec loom. Ive now modified it so that its like it should be 👍

lee reynolds i didn’t know about it if I’m honest. I just couldn’t work out why it was there, but now we know. Hows your car coming along??
@jixuscrixus19674 жыл бұрын
Performance Classics: agreed, the flat fronted Mk2 escort I have is South African origin which came to me in UK via Australia and the long range fuel tank (not sure of the capacity) sits against the rear bulkhead immediately behind the rear seat.

Craig it’s coming on really well. Lots of good relevant content well done. Quick question on the brake pipe clips, other than the Cosworth clips you cut down what are the others you used especially the 1st one attached to the bulkhead strengthener and the white ones at tue back. I’m looking at options for mine. Cheers
@performanceclassics19864 жыл бұрын
Peter finch Thanks Peter. The other clips are also ford items but im not sure what car they are from. My mate had boxes of various clips and i just used which ever ones were the right fit. Sorry i cant be any further help with that. Type in Ford fuel pipe clips into Ebay and i have a feeling I’ve maybe seen them on there previously..

@@performanceclassics1986 thanks Craig I’ll have a look. What’s your plan with fuel pump and filter. I’m looking at going under the boot floor rather than in the boot. Just finding the best placement as the pumps are fairly big for the space available.

Hi Craig. I'm interested to see where and how you go about fusing the car. Where did you get that fuse box as it looks excellent. I'll be doing the same as I need/want some different bits and pieces.

Benjamin Benson The fuse box in the video is a friends. He has had it lying around for years. Im pretty sure they are on Ebay. The 6 way examples definitely are. Just type in automotive fuse boxes and have a good look. They are a really good fuse box and certainly worthwhile fitting.

Lee Pugh I just modified and made them fit exactly how i wanted them. They originally held 2 brake lines as well as 2 fuel lines but i cut them to suit this application so in this case there isn’t any right or wrong way to fit them as they are modified from original.
