Escorts did not have to rust to end up split in half like this. This video reminds me of when I started as an apprentice mechanic in 1968. The first recovery I ever went to was a new mk1 Escort which had hit side on onto a dual carriageway central lamp post. On arrival the car was still wrapped around the lamp post and was near to split in half across the back floor. To recover the car we had to pull both pieces apart, drag the front onto the trailer followed by the rear section which we both lifted on. After this experience I said I would never buy one and 5 years later I went and bought a Mark 1 1300 Sport. Still got some old points and condenser if you want some, lol.

When you get the mk2 cortina you will have the parts you need, don't forget Fords are 1243 and the rotation is anti clockwise, don't give up just yet. Great video as usual lads

Seen that car on another KZbin channel owned by a chap who left it in a field along with said Cortina mk2 and others all rotten as carrots, there was a Fiat 127 and an Alfa Romeo/Nìssan Cherry type thing that is rare there was also 2 Vauxhall Vivas, anyhow, good attempt Marky onto the Cortina mk2

I saw a video on herewith the bearded Explorer when he visitedsome old guy with classic cars he had hoarded and seemed to think They were projects years later that could go on the road again!!They were all rust buckets only really usable as spares.Sounds like same one you're talking about.x

Good Lord, I thought that Cortina was rotten!! Good few spares in that car though - lights, dash, glass for the doors. I did also wonder if it was one of those Fords with the reversed firing order of 1-2-4-3? I really expected to see that burst into life as I sat here, utterly amazed at how it went from seized to turning freely.

Wow! that Escort has seen some life! - But no more! Some good parts, an original water bottle, two good bumpers, a full set of 4 door glass! an LSD rear axle. The odd bit of trim. That Left hand strut is dangerous, could pop through as you are leaning over give you a reyt Tyson Left Hook! But there is a good 1300/1600 engine going there, can you look at the VIN and say what capacity it is?

Great work lads, hard luck with non start....quick way of telling the difference between 1100/1300 and 1600 is there's a 1" step above the water pump on the 1600 & both 1100 and 1300 are level 😉

I ran a Mk 1 for 8 years, had to do the sills, strut tops, wheel arches set fire to the back seat in the process, but they were the dogs bollox in the day. Yours is crusty never seen one as bad - drive safe

reminds me of the cortina mk4 saloon me and my pal saw in the local scrappy, we pressed down the back end, and we heard an almighty crack, and the rear end just collapsed. The lads did move it, to another spot, but it had just practically dropped to pieces like this escort. They never bothered stripping it, nothing really to get off it, it was so rotten, and i think most of the parts, that would have been some use, was gone. Be interesting to see how much you can make off this, as most yards would have just bailed that straight away,

I realise this is a late comment BUT a 1.3 and a 1.6 cap are different. the segments are in a different position in relation to the clips. So if wrong cap will not run.
