WILL IT RUN?mk1 escort first start

Hello and happy Christmas!!!
Welcome back to the channel and hope you all had a brilliant Christmas.
In this video i'll be attempting to start the mk1 escort 1100 super for the first time in many years.
This particular car will be undergoing a full restoration but before i start stripping the car down i'd like to see if t runs and maybe even drives????
I attempted to start this car with the help of my neighbour/friend Ian, we initially had it fire a couple of times after putting some fresh fuel in the carb only to loose spark. I tried cleaning the points but this didnt work so ordered a new points set and condensor. A couple of days later i made my second attempt armed with some new parts! Thankfully the points and condensor cured the spark issue and the little x/flow engine fired up and ran brilliantly, in person the engine sounds great(cameras always make them sound awful) I think it may have a noisey waterpump or dynamo but other then that it ran perfect.
The gearstick is damaged so i'll find a seond hand replacement and try a test drive!

We was driving this car round santapod around 5-6 years ago at classic ford show , it had sat for years but literally a quick clean of points and fuel in the tank and she ran and drove , my friend sold it rather than restore but im glad its getting done , even had an optional extra stereo from ford and belts all on the origional invoice rare early mk1

Hello @chrisholland,my customer said he bought this car roughly five years ago so must have been off your friend. He did mention the original bill of sale had some extras on it,these being the dealer fitted stereo,optional wing mounted mirrors but he didn’t mention the seat belts but I’m sure they’re on there. We tried cleaning the points but they was just too far gone this time so they was replaced along with the condenser and some fresh fuel and it ran perfectly.

Always thought the square headlamp Mk1 were a nicer looking front to the round ones. That will make a nice project 👍

I fully agree. My dream mk1 is a 68 twin cam (replicas included!) with oblong headlamps, painted old English white with a satin black bonnet, wing tops and scuttle panel. The oblong headlamps are apparently like using candles instead but that's mostly cured by using the spot lights that were available for the twin cams and later RS1600's back in the day.

@@SCClassics2022 It's not only having a mk1 with square instead of round lamps that makes a change, also I've felt the same about bubble arches on a mk1, as having standard arches can stand out from the crowd. But and it's a big but, my dream mk2 is a RS 2000 with a factory fitted X pack, as they're rarer still.

@@michaeledwards427 I’ve never been a fan of bubbles arches on a mk1,I love the standard arches on the mk1 they just suit the simple look. As for the mk2 a genuine series x mk2 rs2000 is my dream car. Not really a fan of a flat front x pack mk2 but the rs2000 with the x pack is absolute perfection😍
