Straight away noticed that this is the 1.5d because they have the lower crank case breather! Also the rocker cover is off a newer engine!

Mr. Turner, Thank you for the tutorial on the engine removal. It was well presented. My wife and I have a 1980 B1 Passat/Dasher Diesel wagon with the standard 4 speed transmission. I Do not need to remove the engine because it is fine. However, I did kill the previous 1.5 liter diesel in the 5 door hatchback we had before the wagon. We still have the sedan too. I was driving it too hard and the #1 connecting rod was thrown through the block and it pushed of the water pump on the way out too. Yikes!!! As you might know, this engine is mounted longitudinally like Audi designed it to be. And it is front wheel drive as well. Really the only difference is the alternator location in comparison to a rabbit or caddy....or scirroco. Oh....and the radiator is smaller and sits on the drivers side of the grille only. Otherwise the engine would have no room to fit front to back as it does. I have a question about the blower motor for passenger compartment heat. The fan does not turn on at all. I am going to check it’s operation with my portable battery pack. I will use the pack to touch the resistor leads on the insulator under the drip tray in front of the wind screen to see if they activate the motor. I know the ohm resistances (impedance) already and used my multimeter to find out what they are and the three of those leads are low medium and high can speed settings. I have the old working blower motor from the dead sedan and it works fine.

I did this last week! fairly simple. Now I'm kind of struggling to get it primed after installing again any tips for that? I have minimal experience with diesels.

I usually attach a Mighty Vac to the fuel return line on the pump and apply 20 psi of vacuum to draw fuel into the pump. Then crack the fuel lines at the injectors to bleed the air out of it and crank the piss out of it.
@brian627939 жыл бұрын
+Ryan VWDiesel I've been pulling on the return line with a vacuum pump and doesn't seem to actually pull fuel. I've definitely been cranking the piss out of it though haha.

It's not my truck, but a local guy's. It looks ok from far away, but its pretty crappy up close.

When I did this to my rabbit, I had to remove the power steering pump to get at the thermostat housing. That thing was the dumbest power steering pump I have ever removed!

A mk1 having power steering is dumb. Who needs another fluid reservoir, belt and hoses?
