That’s because most down 1s are 8 frames with some characters like Sub Zero and Nightwolf who have 7 frame d1s. I normally throw out a plus frame string or do some spacing before going for a fast mid.

I think that sort of stuff works to my benefit randomly whenever I try to counter poke them back and make them regret their cheap moves. Thanks for the tips, they might come in handy. Been getting whooped as Spawn lately since his only decent poke is d1 as d3 is slower than it needs to be and d2 and d4 is too risky. Has anyone also noticed that the d2 kb still doesn't work properly when it should count? I know it's left me baffled when it doesn't work.

I am a scorpion main and ik every combo but I do t do this I hate this with a passion. I have trouble with scorpions, kung lau, kitana, and sub zeros. I'm the type of person that I dont care if I lose I just want a good fight. If i get beat badly then I'm not going to start this I'll just take my L and say gg. If your opponent blocks the poke its theyre turn and can counter you. So its like youve become a masher yourself lol. I think the most realistic one i like outta these is the load the combo string and the slight dash back punish. I see high level players use these more often.

That's why characters without a good far reaching mid like subzero are considered bad. They lose to mashers. Some characters specifically have a mid as an answer to poke mashing like nightwolf's back 3 you just need to learn the timing and even if you don't know the timing just block, backdash and whiff punish

Bruh what the actual fuck have you been smoking? jacquie and noob both have 9 frame mids the fastest mids in the game perfect for counter-poking and jacquie's mid reaches pretty far too. The far reaching mid is good for the backdash strategy and a 9 frame mid is good for both backdashing and hitting between pokes. A good example of why no mids is bad, imagine you're subzero and someone with a long range poke like erron or something keeps mashing down 3 at a range where your back 3 doesn't reach. You backdash and reset the neuteral and gain nothing from it and they'll probably outrange you again later in the game. What the fuck are you gonna do? Back 1 is a high and no mids that reach, the only thing you can do as subzero in that situation is either jump and risk getting anti-aired or slide and risk getting punished. subzero gets fucking mashed on *because* he has no far reaching mids. Johnny has godlike pokes especially his down 4 and he even has forward 4 but he doesn't get a lot from it it's just a check. Kano went so much higher in the tierlist after his forward 1 became a mid why do you think is that?

Concerning your 3rd example, I recommend you just walk/step back instead of dashing as some characters (e.g. Jax) will still hit you with D1 if you dash back.

When I first started playing this game last year being new I'm a grabber pokes killed me. But now once I play against pokers and I noticed they relay on it I poke back usually right after the first poke Back 1 with SubZero into a ice ball slide enhance etc etc SubZero slide is a punishment for pokers and btw I don't think ur toxic you just voice the frustrations of people whom actually have and want to enjoy the game with no tricks lol this game caters to people whom like to cheese but if u know the Lin Kuei than you know we fight flawlessly

My method for poke mashers what from learned is that they're negative after 2 pokes. It leaves you wide open. So for anyone that sees someone poking back to back, use your fastest frame hit and get your turn.
