Mk4 Build Video: Body Work Pt. 5

In the latest Mk4 build video, Tony and John fit the hood on the Roadster, and give you tips on how to make the hood scoop cut-out. Tony also gives some tips on trimming the inner edge of the cockpit for the dashboard and rear cockpit aluminum.

Why not use a compass to scribe/draw the cut line?

How large of a diameter pilot hole can we make? I assume it’s just a matter of preference of radius, correct? Nothing would be in the way underneath if we went with something like a 1/2” hole saw?

My kit gets here next month and the part about cutting 1/4 inch so the body can fit over the carpet. Why is this not done prior to sending? To me that’s a fitment issue.

I've done some serious research and even posted on the forum 3 weeks ago with no response. Is it possible to make these kinds of cars street legal? I've only ever seen factory 5 cars at car shows or on racetracks or in somebody's garage as just a show piece

Yes they can be street legal. Bigger issue is whether you really want to daily drive them. Depending on the build, they may not have normal car features like heat, AC, radio, power steering, etc. They may not have fit a hardtop or soft top roof or even wipers if it rains. They're a fun car to take out nice days, but not necessarily something you can routinely drive to work (although there are people who do).

Most of the cars on the forum are street cars. That is what the majority of the guys building the MKIV roadster are doing.

After priming, painting and clear coat, they will tighten back up.
