MK4 GOLF GTI WISHBONE REPLACEMENT

In this video I replace the front wishbones on my MK4 GOLF GTI due to a suspension knocking noise that I later discovered was a torn bush in the wishbone.
The wishbones I used were mid range standard wishbones from a local parts supplier. I did not replace the ball joints during this renewal.
After the replacement I took the car to get 4-wheel alignment as the wheels were toeing in slightly and the steering wheel was off centre when travelling in a straight line.

Doing this today bro. I jacked up my car to do the gear oil. And my uncle said my wheel had play. Changed my engine mounts last weekend. I pray when these wheels touch tarmac im back in buisness

No mate, couldn't feel before or after. The knocks that I had were coming from the TT anti-roll bar/links. Worth doing though so the next MOT didn't fail as it was an advisory.

Don't know how you managed to pull the ball joint out of the wishbone. I just changed mine and I didn't have enough room for the ball joint to clear the wishbone. I had to remove the ball joint.

It was so long ago I wouldnt even remember how I did it, have you tried to move the steering to get a bit of leverage on the disc? Also if you push down on the wishbone I think the ball joint slides out of the wishbone.

@@SPOOLINUP Hi, thanks for the reply. I've just watched a couple more vids on how to do it and no one else had the same trouble i did. I even disconnected the steering track rod and that didn't work. But it is done now. At least I know what to expect doing the other side.👍

Would you recommend changing the ball joints? how was yours after just changing the wishbone?

Everything was all good man, come to think about it now the ball joints are only cheap so would probably be a good idea. Wish I though of that at the time 🤣

Yeah I figured while I’m there might as well change em, one of the bolts on the right arm snapped for me😂 then my jack bent and broke. Had to get a mechanic to come finish the job

Nothing is ever straight forward mate, some jobs are smooth and others are rough and anything that can go wrong will go wrong. Glad it all got sorted in the end man thats the main thing 👍

Hahaha mate honestly I was just doing the brakes all around on my MK2 Fiesta and NOTHING went wrong until the last corner the brake pipe was seized to the nut so it got twisted and snapped. Got new brake pipes coming now : D

Did the bolts come with the lower arm, the one for the anti roll bar on my Leon 2004 got rounded off cos some nut job used a nut gun on it lol

By lower arm are you talking about the wishbone? Are you talking about the bolts for the ARB link to wishbone?

None of them came with mine man, I think you would have to source those separately unfortunately but I dont think it will be a problem for you to find them.
