To anyone watching and considering this, read the following: 1)This service works well with the fluid warmed and up to temp. This is a good practice for most ATF services: it keeps the debris suspended in the fluid, and they all come right out during the drain . You can use an IR laser gun to take a temp reading under the car; use OBD-11, or a Cobb AP if you're running one. Low tech, still on the stock tune? Just touch your hand (with gloves) briefly to the lower transmission case and confirm if it's nice and warm. A 15-min drive will usually get you to the right temp. 2) MANDATORY if doing the top-fill method: Keep an empty 5-qt oil jug on hand. The ones where it has a sight-level on the side to show you how many quarts are in it. Castrol, Valvoline and other quality oil brands do this on all their 5.1qt jugs. 3) Dump the old, dirty DSG fluid (captured in your drain pan) into the oil jug. Measure how much came out. THIS is how many quarts of fresh DSG fluid you need to replace. Zero guessing. Anticipate 4.3-5qts of fluid. You'll be ordering 5-qts for any given DSG service. Save whatever isn't used for next time. 4) Use the OE VW fluid and filter, even if you aren't buying it from the dealer. You will NEVER have to worry about putting in fluid with the wrong viscosity and wear characteristics this way. 5) A DSG unit can cost $4-5k to replace, so keep that in mind when evaluating your maintenance costs... An extra $40-50 for OE stuff is cheap insurance. Example of a kit w/OE filters and fluids: www.fcpeuro.com/products/audi-vw-dsg-transmission-service-kit-genuine-vw-audi-02e305051ckit3 EXCEPTION: The Mk7.5 cars use a different, newer 7-spd DSG unit, so make sure you are purchasing the correct parts for your application. I'm doing my first service at 40k, then every ~20-25k thereafter. Early and often on fluids and filters, and your components can live a long and prosperous life. 👌🍺💪

just skip measure fill method and just put in 4.7-5 and call it a day. As long as the oil was up to temp and you let it all drain it should be just fine.

reminder that only 2018 7.5 uses the 6speed dsg all the other 7.5 use the 7speed dsg

Thanks for the vid man. Doing this job tmrw on my '17. And pro tip.. Tell your pops not to leave the heated mirrors on 24/7. I noticed that toward the end of your vid. It'll melt the glue holding the glass and they can just fall off. I've seen it many times.

Did you forget to empty the excess out? ... Sounds to me like it's an important step tou missed there

I agree. If he measured the amount that came out, and added only that much back in, he may be okay. Otherwise, yes, you need to allow the excess out by pulling the primary plug, then reinstalling it.

This guy has good intentions of course! But, this is why I always make sure I’m copying someone with hundreds of comments, confirming they’re correct etc, like ChrisFix. Still, this bro had good intentions

I didn’t mention the fact that while I was filling the trans via the top fill method, I dropped a bottle of DSG fluid and lost quite a bit. I believe I got it right where it needs to be based off of how much I lost during fill up. But you’re absolutely correct on the excess part!👌🏼

@@AlexMK7 This reminds me when I dropped a bottle of compound whilst polishing my MK7, then forgot I had dropped it. Moved the car slightly so I had better seating position and ran over my compound causing an explosion… yeah my neighbours saw the whole thing! 😂😫😫

If he measured drain output he shouldn’t need to

You skipped a step player. Youre supposed to drain the excess while the car is running.

I did that when I saw your comment and know I don’t know how to explain this to VW and let them know I found a factory defect on their dsg transmission, it’s making an stupid noise when I go reverse.

@@bm_wuratli6883 you should drain the excess oil on 35c to 45c that is the reason gearbox start jumping gears and start clucking noises

@@bm_wuratli6883 Put 5 liters in, get the gearbox to about 40deg C and take off the first drain plug again. The excess fluid will come out, wait until it comes down to a single drip and torque it to spec. You can read the DSG temp with an OBD11.
