My son (also named Zach👍) owns a Mk7 GTI w/DSG. Terrific car! I highly recommend the beautifully made LEYO aluminum paddle shifters! They’re literally transformative! Lovely things. These are such good cars. My son loves driving but he is a professional musician (Lead Guitar for the Red Clay Strays👍) and needs space for guitars and amps, this car is a perfect compromise. It really is the perfect car just in general.

I did this upgrade yesterday. My car is super stiff now. Wife doesn’t like it over bumps. Maybe bc the shop put it in the stiffest setting?

I finally ordered the 034 rear sway bar with 034 spherical rear end links. I didn’t want to cheap out and get the super pro end links for my MK7.
@jordansalkeld14 жыл бұрын
Have your end links started making a hellish noise yet? They require cleaning and lubing to continue working
@eloneatmyshorts4 жыл бұрын
jordansalkeld1 that’s what I’ve read as well. I chose the H&R sway bar for it’s Teflon lines bushing and Moog sealed endlinks (with Zerk fittings).

Damn, you guys in the US really lucked out for 17 when it came to both the PP and LP (because Sport). Here in Canada, LP wasn't even available except on the Autobahn (which gets it standard), and the PP is an option only on the Autobahn, and by that point, the R was maybe just a few grand away.

I'm not a VAG guy at all, but it seems like the PQ35 predecessor and now the MQB platforms both had lacking rear sway bars. It would seem they would be better served in the journalist reviews if they just put a proper one on their enthusiast cars from the start.
@TedwardDrives6 жыл бұрын
Editing an install video of the end links (we already posted when we installed the swaybar but the links hadn't come in yet)...The OEM endlinks are just plastic with some really weak hardware. Very happy to have some beefier bits in there now

I'd love to see a video like this with an MK7 Golf R. I have one and am considering a rear 034 Motorsports sway bar to hopefully tame some of the understeer.
@TedwardDrives6 жыл бұрын
I'll see what I can find for Golf R with just this mod. Most of my Golf R friends have gone a little nuts with mods so its tricky to nail down one variable when you're driving

Will do...My first big video (i had no idea what i was doing!) was an APR stage 3+ golf R. It has since blown up and some big things coming this spring/summer
@jmahtab6 жыл бұрын
Zachrey Sweatt thanks for the info. I think I'll probably do the RSB, links, and rear subframe inserts at the same time. Hopefully this will wake the rear end of the car up a bit.

Tedward I remember that video. Black R with bronze wheels?
@Dave-gg6vl6 жыл бұрын
What setting did you guys put the sway bar on - soft or stiff? Also do you notice any noise coming from the new 034 rear endlinks? Some people say that the spherical endlinks are noisy
@TedwardDrives6 жыл бұрын
I'm 99% sure we put it in the stiffest setting (zach always turns up to 11 so...) and I don't remember much if any noise. I'll check in with the owner to confirm. Click on this link to see the full install, which may confirm that setting for you kzbin.info/www/bejne/rl7TZ2OlaMuDg5I

@@TedwardDrives Thanks it is on the stiffest settings. Just ordered KW coilovers, and now I think I have found which rear sway bar to go for!

Green q, would a stealer try and blame a sway bar change if anything want wrong the car under warranty (I have same car, late 2017 sport trim, DSG).

Did that rear sway bar help with the horrible understeer that the gti's have?

It really did...Its maybe a bit too tail happy for some, but I think its dialed in nicely.

@taforth6 жыл бұрын
Tedward me too. My first car was an MKII GTI 16V, followed by a ‘94 Corrado VR6 (for 12 years from new), which I tracked quite a bit. Have always had a soft spot for VWs 👍. A 991.2 GT3 would be my ideal car (once the kids move out 😉).

Any clunking with endlinks? I just installed 034 rear bar and dynamic endlinks and I'm getting a clunk when driving slow over bumbs

@@chriskeegan8919 found problem , one of the bushings on link was faulty , hole was too big for the bolt. I switched to moog endlinks , still need to resolve this with 034
@chriskeegan89193 жыл бұрын
So you're currently on the 034 sway bar with moog links. How is that setup? Are you on the stiffest setting? Also, is your suspension stock, lowering springs, coilovers?

Why do you think you can drive this faster than an M3?
@TedwardDrives6 жыл бұрын
The limits are VERY approachable on the GTI. There is almost no fear. The M3 is awesome, but it will understeer and oversteer quite a bit more which makes it less accessible on public roads.
@philliesphan3346 жыл бұрын
Tedward do you think it's because of the weight, suspension setup?
@TedwardDrives6 жыл бұрын
both. the M3 is no lightweight and it shows its true mass on tight roads (a little tighter than this one). The GTI is still heavy but, lighter than the R which is why I prefer it to the R. GTI is just a hidden gem and far more capable that most of its owners will experience even in stock form
@philliesphan3346 жыл бұрын
Tedward you don't think if you stiffened the M3 it'd be as agile? Do you think there's any benefit to the M3's extra weight?
@delanobeek6 жыл бұрын
Tedward Nice to know that you think highly of these mark 7's. I picked up a Mk7.5 in January of this year. My realistic dream car. Even in stock form I am totally satisfied. Out the box how much would you rate these cars out of 10? Because so many people place emphasis on these high horsepower cars.
