@@sreesanthciby1801 You have to keep in mind that Hasselblad and PhaseOne LEAD the professional studio and editorial photography markets around the entire world. The biggest agencies in the world use only and exclusively either Hasselblads or PhaseOnes cameras. They are not small fish, commercial grade companies like Sony, Leica, Canon, Nikon, Fuji and others... They are the two biggest and worlds leading pro studio camera manufacturers in the world. Having Hasselblad actually engineer, design and install a completely custom lens setup, including the sensor, glass, coatings, focusing motors and so on and so forth, would not be nearly as cheap as having a company like Leica, Zeiss or Sony do it... Also, not to mention that Hasselblad being one of the two biggest world leading studio camera manufacturers, they specialize in medium format cameras and medium format lenses AND to top that off, all of their lenses use leaf shutter technology aka. in-lens shutter, not standard, cheap in-camera body shutter... So for Hasselblad to engineer, design and put AN ACTUAL Hasselblad lens onto a phone, would probably cost more than the phone itself... I mean, their SMALLEST lens for their SMALLEST X system cameras, is a 30mm f3.5 lens and it costs 3,995 EUR! Yes, their smallest lens costs 4,000 EUR! So if they were to manufacture an entire lens for a phone, with THEIR technology, you would probably be looking at a +/-2,000 EUR JUST FOR THE LENS - so the entire phone would probably end up costing more than 3-4 grand... Nobody would buy a 3,000 - 4,000 EUR/USD phone...

@@VishalPaswan-uy9xk Did you even read my reply to @Sreesanth Ciby? Because it looks like you did not. You need to think and know what ''Hasselblad do with their bla bla bla'' because in order for Hasselblad to engineer, design and manufacture a custom made lens for a mobile phone, it would cost 10 times more to manufacture compared to what it would cost a commercial grade company like Leica to do. If Hasselblad was to engineer and make a mobile phone lens, with a leaf shutter and their own glass elements, focus motor etc., that lens alone would end up costing upwards of 2,000 EUR, which is already in itself 3 to 6 times more expensive than what the average phone costs today - and if you put that 2,000 EUR lens on a phone, you're now looking at a 2,500 - 3,000 EUR mobile phone, with 70 to 80 percent of the cost of that phone being its camera lens... Who the hell would buy a 500 EUR phone with a 2,000 EUR camera lens on the back?! Nobody... Use your brain... Meanwhile, Leica probably made that lens on the back for less than 100-200 EUR per unit - INCLUDING THE IMAGE SENSOR - that's already 10 times cheaper than what it would cost Xiaomi to hire Hasselblad to do. And if you still don't understand, here's a laymans analogy for you; If you were an car manufacturer and you wanted to outsource and have a car chassis made for your car, do you think it would be cheaper to have Renault(Leica) to manufacture a chassis for you or to have Rolls Royce(Hasselblad) manufacture the chassis for you?
@AlcidesBan
@AlcidesBan 2 жыл бұрын
@@nogerboher5266 Nobody is putting a Leica/Hasselblad lens on a phone, they advise the lens design and enable the use of their brand on the phone. About the dominance of Hasselblad and PhaseOne I think you are stuck in the past. When digital age come this companies lost a lot of market today it's most important a complete digital workflow than a lens with a leaf shutter technology. A lot of companies switched to full frame cameras, more convenient, less expensive. I don't know how you can say Hasselblad with just 210 employees is a big fish against Nikon with 20 thousands. BTW Hasselblad was bought for DJI chinese company years ago.

Agree. Any camera system has it's own quirks, it's not that hard to figure them out and adapt your capturing accordingly. It's the reason why I think casual 1:1 / side by side shots without further context can be misleading. Change the angle a bit and the results could totally swing in the other direction.

Adding on to scientia's photography point, it's not surprising to pros or those with DSLR experience that the huge lens on the Xaiomi is the wide angle. To be fair, the average causal won't be able to immediately recall the difference in physical appearance between a bulbous front element of a fisheye or ultrawide compared to a flat front element of a telephoto.

Haven't seen MKBHD this excited over a smartphone camera for some time now. Good job Xiaomi. There aren't many bad smartphone cameras these days, so having shutter confidence and noiseless low light shots, are top tier bonuses for me. One reason I swopped from a Samsung to a Pixel was because of how every Samsung phone I've used seems to be plagued by slow shutter - caused by the camera app itself, especially when lighting is causing the camera to constantly re-calibrate for whatever reason. (I know this because I used a third party camera app and that slowness wasn't there, so it's not the hardware).

Tbf, this is mostly Sony's job. Xiaomi integrated this sensor into their phone do props for that, but I don't see too much innovation in software from them. Just imagine, with Qualcomm chps it has been possible for 2yrs to do the seamless transfer between cameras when zooming, would be great if they put some effort into that.

Also last year they use a Samsung ISOCELL GN2 sensor which was the biggest sensor at the time it came out. To be honest I can go on and on about the problems about Samsung. This company clearly has a bad management because it has a huge potential but they have problems in such areas they should never have. For example they introduced some high-end sensors with very fast focus and minimal shutter speed yet they don't implement those in their own phones for some reason. Such a weird company.

So much for so less compared to price points of other phones. Many bells an whistles. I HATE that there is no real official US carrier (T- Mobile/AT&T) that will support 5G on the bands they have. @@HAWXLEADER My HUAWEI mate 40 pro has a similar but less bulgy round camera bump. When I use it without a case, the aluminum frame of the camera bump rubs on surfaces and gets scratched. Luckily the bump is really thin so a normal case, with a slightly thicker edge round the camera, would keep it protected. With MI's design, unless the case has a really thick protective bump around the camera, there is going to be scratching on the edge of the lower half of the bump, with it sitting tilted. It might not affect the lenses, but the frame is going to look real bad.

Re: not getting everything in focus when you're up close. Strange to me that there haven't been any attempts (to my knowledge) of adding a kind of automatic focus-stacking feature. Many cameras have an assisted mode for this already, and with all the money being spent on computational photography I would think this would be an area of interest. Maybe there just haven't been enough phone cameras that had hardware that was really capable of shallow DOF.

Impressive cameras module with truly class leading detail rendering. If only Xiaomi had its own standard color profile, then allowed users to implement the Leica color science modes when they wanted. That would be solve the color shifting between lenses. From what I've read, the 12S Ultra is only intended for release in China (so far). If sold globally, it could become a major hit with photographers and content creators (who could afford the rather steep price tag.

8:59 I think what happened here is the 'Stabilization Cropping' When we zoomed in too much, the video shakiness increases exponentially. To mitigate that, I think the software cropped portion of the original video (where you had the plane in focus) and stabilised the cropped part by fixating it to still object in the image (here, the clouds) which eventually resulted in you losing the plane from the footage. Ideally, the software should've kept the plane in frame and should've tried to stable things around it. But maybe it didn't work here. If I remember correctly this kind of process is used in many video editing softwares that feature video stabilization. Even Google photos offers something like this. I could be completely wrong with this. But it was cool to think about it.

I don't think the RX100 series of cameras need to add programmatic background blur, but the artificial stuff will likely have more (along with the potential of bad subject isolation). If you mean like stacking frames for night photography, I'd have to see if it has anything like that. Bracketing is a pretty standard feature, but cameras don't often automatically merge frames. Also no idea if the RX100 have any type of auto HDR and adjustment based on human subjects. IMO, I'd rather have raw image files I can mess around with, but I'm into the hobby.

Imagine this sensor on a more powerful computational photography device. Probably should add variable aperture to better help that fringing problem. But that zoom quirk is gonna irk a lot of people especially someone who uses the zoom just as often as the ultrawide. I hope Xiaomi fixes that. Lastly, whether Xiaomi commits to updating this camera occasionally with future software is something of an uncertainty. Considering that software to better utilize the previous Mi 11 Ultra's sensor is still not there, I doubt Xiaomi would push any software for the Xiaomi 12S Ultra that would drastically improve the experience, let alone fix some bugs. I just hope they commit better this time.

The most surprising part about the camera setup was the fact that the centre camera has the ultrawide lens whereas the main sensor was on the side.

Great to see genuine photo sensor improvements in smartphones. That bokeh looks great. What's the crop factor for that sensor? A full frame (small format) mirrorless camera can make background almost disappear into a wash of colour at F1.2 55mm or F2 85m..

Not sure exactly about this Xiaomi but I can work out the crop factor on my S22 Ultra's main camera (which has a slightly smaller sensor than the Xiaomi 12S Ultra) from the shooting details saved along with a photo. It shows a focal length of 6.4mm at f/1.8 aperture. Knowing that the angle of view is equivalent to 24mm on a full frame camera (confirmed from Samsung's own specs where they say the main camera is 24mm equivalent) you just need to do 24 / 6.4 = crop factor of 3.75. That might be off very slightly due to difference in aspect ratio of the sensors (a full frame camera is typically 3:2 but I believe the S22 Ultra is 4:3 like a Micro Four Thirds camera. And if you choose to shoot in 16:9 on the phone that would cause a further difference relative to full frame). I can then work out exactly what the depth of field would be equivalent to full frame: 3.75 * f/1.8 = f/6.75. For a phone camera that is actually impressive but definitely far off the f/1.4 you can get full frame 24mm lenses in. Only the native focal length of the camera is recorded along with a photo on the S22 Ultra - so say I was using the main camera but chose to zoom in to 50mm, this is digital zooming/cropping by 2.1x so I would have to remember that a photo I've taken with this level of zoom would actually be equivalent to 2.1 * 6.75 = f/14.18 at 50mm on a full frame camera.

Xiaomi is actually underrated... Their phones are actually incredible.. I got the Redmi 11S about 3 months ago... And man.. I love it.. For the range and competition of phones in the same price range as the 11S... This phone delivers.. So I'm not surprised the 12S does same.. With more software updates, the phone will come together better.. The ultra wide, macro and main camera with the 11S works together.. So yeah, I'm sure the 12S would.

11:55 the phone and the price are china exclusive and chinese brands usually charge at least 50% more internationally so it's more like a *1300-1400$* phone. It feels like chinese prices are subsidized by international sales 🙄
