And now Aftermath comes around and tells us Sindel always loved Shao Khan and was as evil as him, to the point of killing Jerrod. If that's the case, why on earth did she commit suicide in order to prevent Shao's further conquests in the first place? The probolem is not that they retconned her. Is that they did it terrible.

interesting analysis. I always thought of it as instead of being happy she is with her daughter, she has to put on a facade in order to trick her daughter into thinking she is good.

I think she had some second thoughts at that moment, probably because Kitana was so kind and loving to her, and, by all means, she is her mother, but her power thirst got the upper hand over her maternal feelings, whatever they were. When she said that Kitana should be put in chains to feel the anguish of defeat, I think that that was her buying time in order to not let Kitana be executed by Shao Kahn, although it is obvious that Sindel would never let her daughter get any empowered position again.

The Sindel retcon was the turning point of the whole Aftermath story, considering Shang Tsung knew all along that she was evil before Quan Chi's brainwashing. Rewatching the story, there were foreshadowing moments, like when Shang Tsung said "Sindel is the key", and Kronika mentioned something like "Shang Tsung wouldn't go through the trouble to restore her if it didn't secure victory".

@Adam Young How do you think fans of Shao Kahn felt with MK11? For the first time he's tossed aside like a C grade villain and beaten by one of the weaker MK characters. This was cool in that way, we see an alternate timeline where Shao kahn returns and smashes Kitana and Liu Kang, and does Shao Kahn things. It doesn't even matter because Liu Kang resets the timeline again so they're fine. I personally don't get the Kitana-Liu Kang relationship. They just eye each other once at the MK tournament and now they are soulmates destined to be together for thousands of years.

I was introduced to her in mk 3 I think. And I believe I was only 12 or something I don't even know. I remember deadly alliance being the first one I owned though. Anyway I'm 26 now and always assumed she was evil though I knew the history. I don't see her as good lmao. I was going to say that maybe Revenant Kitana was unharmed when the trio entered the Keep because... well, she was on the Keep, shield from the effects of regular time and space. But I remember that she was with Revenant Liu Kang when he was about to start his fight against Raiden and then got his legs smashed by proxy when Shao Kahn directly crushed Past Liu Kang's legs. Up to that point, Past Kitana had already been beaten up by Sindel, so it really doesn't make sense that her Revenant self was still in good shape for a fight. What makes even more sense is that Past Jade was most likely killed by Sindel on the ship, but Revenant Jade was safe and sound in the Keep. I think the producers rushed the production of MK 11: Aftermath and then missed out on those details.
