This is how you make a remake. You don't Butcher the story, you just improve and make on it. Love it. As soon as the MUSIC starts it took me back to the old days. Nostalgia at its best. They added additional details in gameplay but didn't mess with the story and the feel. And the character faces are so much more improved compared to the first look. 100% improvement in Paulie's look. All the Developers out there take notes on how to do remakes.

I hate the new look of the main characters, especially Tommy and Paulie. Frank's alright, but the rest looks totally different! And I want to see the hardcore mode, before I buy it. The HUD is also not to my liking, especially the blood around the screen if you get shot. These would be my personal cons, but the rest looks excellent! Finally my friends can experience this story, because they didn't seem to want to play the original game because of the graphics.

It is those moments that they pay attention to detail (eg like how Vincenzo mentions his bat is from his nephew - to show how close the Italian mafia is to their whole family -; or how Tommy tells Luigi that Sarah will drop by the bar later with some food for him during "Fairplay") that shows how writing not only is important for the story, but to deepen their characters, and to show how things are connected. Tommy was welcomed by the family, he became a persona non grata, the same Trojan horse he gave Salieri, Salieri gave him back. It is not nitpicking, if you think so, you are oblivious to how important writing is to any media.

I dunno but it seems this remake kind of changed how Tommy joined the Salieri Family and fell into the Mob life. In the Original he fired from the Taxi company he worked for after his boss found about his brushes with the warring mob families. With finding any work jut about if not completely impossible during the depression he came to the conclusion that taking up Don Salieri"s offer to join was his only option It may change in the full build, but so far in this remake seems like they skipped that part so it looks like Tommy joinsthe Salieri family just to get payback on the Morello goons who attacked him and wrecked his Cab, then just decided to stay with them. It kinda messes up his original character of being the an average guy reluctant but joined due to chance and various events.

I’ve never played Mafia. But I did play Mafia 3, and I can definitely say I’m looking forward to playing the game that started it all. I like the driving mechanics most of all so far. It feels like Hangar 13 really did their homework when they designed the driving for this game, and what can I say? I’m a classic cars kind of person, so getting the chance to drive around in a 1930s rust-bucket will be like a dream come true for me. A nice final hurrah before the PS5 comes out and it’s on to bigger and more interesting games.

I mean too each their own but im stoked about this. Not even sure why I'm just browsing the comments when its mostly just people bitching about the fact that its not like the original. I think its just because I'm bored at work and want to break balls. But I love the original. It holds a special place in my heart. I played it several times as a kid. I played it in anticipation for Mafia 2, hell back then i wanted a remake of Mafia 1 with 2s engine. Mafia 1 has one of the best plots for a game out there in my opinion. And I'll always love the original but its time for it to get a touch up. Like seriously the graphics I thought were great for its time, I used to think it looked great. But the gameplay is honrstly outdated and I don't even get why people are so butthurt about the voice acting. It fit the original but god was it basic. People seem to bitch about the fact that Paulie sounds too geeky but like honestly... I had a huge hard on for gangsters and like this era of Chicago and like, their voices line up with how I'd expect a mobster from 30s Chcago to sound. Sam is already way more interesting of a character then he was in the original and same goes for Tom. He seems more street smart and like he would know not to cross the mafia but just had the misfortune of it happening to him anyways. Like I'm sorry but the kind hearted, modest and soft spoken Tommy from the original just doesn't seem realistic to me. And again I say that as someone who fucking loved the original. This is worlds better.

The original is great, no doubt, but the gameplay is what keeps me from revisiting it because, as you said, it's outdated. It was too realistic and it killed a lot of the fun for me. The accuracy while shooting was just horrendous, and whenever you got shot once it took like almost half your health. The voice acting and dialogue is one of the best parts about this remake, it's realistic and intriguing, and it gets you heavily invested into these characters..it's like playing a blockbuster film about the Chicago mafia in the 30s. The same can't quite be said for the OG game, where it sounded like most of the voice actors were bored as hell reading off of a script, and just wanted a quick paycheck. To the haters, take off those nostalgia glasses and realize you're in for a treat

Like Paulie seems like this perfect mix of Joe Pesci and James Cagney and I love it. Tommy reminds me of Robert Deniro and the beginning just gives off total Taxi Driver vibes. It just feels like a Scorsese movie and I love it. Like for me I was just obsessed with prohibition and the mafia in general and the original game definitely had a lot to do with that. So I'm just glad to see it getting back into the spotlight. Like I wanted this to happen back when Mafia 2 came out. This has been a long time in the making for me.

I think it's kind of corny how there's so many conveniently placed construction sites throughout the city during that first chase. I would rather they make it that... 1) ...you have to maneuver the obstacle yourself instead of launching into a cinematic camera. 2) ...sometimes the chasing car is able to keep up and doesn't just crash. I'm really excited to get my hands on this game!

Yes, italian accent is forced, the only voice actor that sounds good is Salieri. Gameplay looks like Mafia III had a reskin with "some" Mafia II aesthetics. *I'm guessing they are placeholders?* Story wise is a stretch, *not meant to be a remaster but a remake* For a Preview Build this looks good! one nitpick... The combat feels so off it looks like tommy wanted to be lincoln, from gunplay to hand to hand combat feels off! Maybe go back to what they have in Mafia II with simple combos Maybe I plan on buying it, and yes I know that opinions don't mean rats ass so you don't have to tell me twice

One bad thing I noticed is that car damage is minimal, like in mafia 3, there is no metal bending, parts falling of like in original when you ram into things, I hope they change that till the launch or with a patch later on it would be bad to give this game 90% treatment and we all know it deserves 110% of perfection it will pay off, fans will appreciate it

I can only take the conclusion that all the simps praising this game never played the original. 9 minutes in and I think I've seen enough. The first chasing part was supposed to be difficult, so difficult that you'd most probably had to attempt it a fair number of times before succeeding. Now it takes what, a few seconds to shake the guys off? I don't even want to imagine the rest of the game. They dumbed it down SO hard, that it's not a matter of nostalgia, it's a matter of respect for anyone who doesn't suffer some severe mental illness. And somehow they managed to make the voices sound beyond ridiculous and tryhard, not even to mention they just don't match the characters. But in the end, it's all just business and it was probably done to cater to the younger audiences who don't care much about the subtilities and just want their quick fix.

I have the impression they changed the characters background as well, Tommy was a nice guy that was in the mafia, now he sounds and acts more aggressively. In the original, even though some say the voice acting is bad, Tommy sounded scared to death when Sam put his hand inside his jacket, now he seems more like Vito Scaletta.

I am only two months older than the original. Though I grew up playing free ride I never was allowed to play the story as I was just a kid. When I really started to get into Narrative driven games, the original mafia was hard for me to play because of the controls. So glad I can now experience the story of Tommy Angelo
