MKO Abiola was a very wealthy man. He was also influential and powerful. Abiola controlled virtually everything in his lifetime, from business, communications, and religion to politics, international affairs, and even sports.
Abiola had everything he wanted; money, fame, connection, and power. He was even elected as President in one of Africa’s freest and fairest elections. However, the election process was nullified and Abiola was robbed of his mandate under enigmatic circumstances. #HistoryVille

He was a caregiver. A magnanimous philanthropist before he went into politics. The people loved and believed in him, and he loved them back deeply and affectionately. His brutal murder in prison in Sanni Abacha's autocratic rule, reminds one of the untimely snatching by the hands of death, the charming, articulate, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., President John F. Kennedy, and especially his younger brother, the brilliant, intelligent, effusively foresighted Robert Francis Kennedy. Great men. Servants of God and the people!

Should have left the presidency alone when it became obvious that the military wouldn’t let him become president. He should have recognized that Abacha was a rabid and ruthless beast. There were so many other ways he could have helped the people. Imagine all he could have continued to do for blacks worldwide had he lived. He didn’t need to be president of Nigeria to uplift blacks everywhere.

From Kenya, a lover of History. This is very, very sad indeed. And if the time had come for power to go back to the people, elections done and the winner well known, why and how on earth does Babangida the incumbent pretend to pass the baton on to an interim committee and not the president elect who was MKO Abiola. And Sani Abacha arresting and detaining the peoples choice, that was despicable!!!

Exactly. And up till today Babangida still has influence in Nigerian politics. In fact, he was the one who invited Obasanjo to c9ome and become the next president when Nigerian returned back to democracy in 1998/1999. Babangida has a disgust against Abiola, remember shonekan?
