Thanks for the tips!!! I had just managed to remove my MKS Ezy quick release pedals from my bike. Great and clear explanation on the pedals begin tightening too much into the crank, hence, the quick release mechanism does not have enough clearance to release the pedals. I thought the pedals was badly jammed etc. I was lucky that I have a very thin profile multi-tool (2mm) with 15mm spanner size that can slot in-between the crank and the quick release. Else would have to find way to mess around with the retention lock ring etc and the ball bearing etc. Thanks once again. You save my day 🙏

Other spanners are available. I've had a pair of Pro-Cone spanners for servicing hubs for years. They also double up nicely for removing/tightening pedals as well. Very useful kit to have.

As discussed in the Guardian recently, bikes-in-shared-flats can be a bone of contention. But as the flat is a safe place, it can be tempting to keep them indoors. These quick-release pedals may help. I have them on my bike, which I keep in my flat and the feature is really useful, helping to make the bike slimmer and less prone to snag the passer by 🙂

At 3:18 you said a regular wrench is "not wide enough" to fit between the pedal and the crankset. That is actually backward; a standard wrench is too wide to fit between the pedal and the crankset.

Spanner came with bike.I put MKS ezy compact on. Perfect.

I have a problem in that the QR is jammed is cannot quick release. I can't get the pedal out of the QR socket, even though the QR ring moves. So I can remove the pedals from the crank arm, but can't separate the pedal from the QR socket. Anyway to repair without taking the QR socket apart?

Hi Edik, I think I'd lay the bike on it's side and put a little thin penetrating oil or spray in there, leave for a bit & try again, maybe tap around it with something to help loosen it, I'm sure it'll come off with a bit of gentle persuasion...

@Ezebra I have the same problem. Did you manage to free the pedal from the QR?

@@yusufb1565 I took out one ball bearing from each of the pedals, and the left one works fine now. I notice that the pedals thread allows the pedal shaft to go into the crank arm too far, and this impedes the cover being pushed back far enough to release the pedal from the socket. I am now looking for a washer that will fit in the recess but not so large that it prevents the cover from being slid back. When I find it I will put a washer on both pedals. I'll report back.

@@BreezyRider66 I tried it but discovered that's not the problem. On my 2009 B the thread is too deep and doesn't allow the collar/cover to be pushed clear of the ball bearings. See my reply to UsufB below.
