[MKW TAS] Moo Moo Meadows Flap (Ultra) - 9.207

A little over a week ago, Ejay proved the newest and most elusive ultra shortcut in the game, the Moo Moo Meadows ultra, to be possible. If you haven't already, go give him some love for his discovery. He really deserves it :). But anyway, before the ultra shortcut was formally released, I had been given some insider info that got me theorizing as to how the time could be brought down from the low 17 Ejay got in his demonstration. This run is the result of that theorization.
Before we begin, let's make something clear: yes, this run is an official best known time. For whatever reason a lot of people seem to forget that Flaps are considered official categories, and so whenever an ultra with a long setup shows up, they immediately think it doesn't save time. This track is by far the most extreme example that we currently have in the game (though it may not last too long). The idea for this lap is to perform the shroomless out of bounds entry the same way Ejay did, but after getting out of bounds, we drive an entire lap without going back in bounds. This is where 95% of the time for this strat execution comes from since we can't use any boosts while on the heavy offroad. However, because we don't care about the lap 1 time, how long we spend isn't really important.
After driving out of bounds for about 5 minutes, the actual flap starts. The main difference from the original discovery of the ultra, as you can probably tell, is that we perform the outside drift clip (or ODC) before the flap begins. This section is a lot harder than it looks since the wall becomes double sided too early for us to clip using the same method Ejay used. If we used that method, we'd never enter the finish line and the lap wouldn't begin. To circumvent this, I had to figure out some weird shroomless momentum nonsense that would allow me to initiate the shroom while already having momentum directed towards the wall. The space we have to get the clip without bonking early, missing the wall, or being respawned is quite small, so I was quite surprised that this ended up working at all. Upon clipping, we steer the vehicle midair to start the lap as late as possible then perform an OOB bounce to land on the OOB seam. Notably, we land on the seam far enough forward that we don't need to back up to get enough room to perform the final part of the ultra. We can simply turn around and shroom as soon as we turn far enough to the left. The final bit utilizes a technique that we've coined the seam swing. By landing on the OOB seam as low as we can while performing a right drift, we can land back on the seam, start a drift to the right (which sends us to the left due to outside drift bike physics), and then immediately fall off the seam using precise control stick movements. The end result is a redirection of our speed while underneath the floor. If done properly, we are able to barely reach the final key checkpoint without having to delay our acceleration with a hop prior to the seam swing. We respawn right before the finish line and do a small wiggle to shave one final millisecond off the run, nearly cutting the flap time for this ultra in half.

Ok I wanted to do a real comment but I’ve noticed a trend in what people have been saying so I just need to clear things up. - MMM has had an ultra since last week: kzbin.info/www/bejne/d5CWaYeQiLx3es0 - The ultra was first performed by Ejay B, and was uploaded on his channel (Jellopuff did not discover the ultra) - The ultra is faster for 3lap by several seconds, this video shows two flap-exclusive strategies which add up to 8 seconds of timesave over the original demonstration - The “drive a lap OOB” setup used in this video was known but not used in the original demonstration to specifically not create this confusion - Jellopuff did actually find the “clip facing the other way” strategy himself. You can give him the credit he deserves for that

@@Sonico98 You don't have to do a full lap for a 3lap run, you can just hit the banner and reverse into the spot you need to shroom at. Sure, the ultra shortcut lap will be slower than the one in this video, but we're not concerned about individual lap times in the context of 3lap

@Ultra_Pear i don't see the need to be so sarcastic about it, i dont really see what would be so obviously impossible for a human to do here other than some of the oob movement being pretty precise. Im also not looking to grind any ultra im just interested in whats possible within the game.

This is currently the second hardest ultra to TAS in the game given no prior experience in TASing, and as far as RTA goes it's THE hardest physically possible ultra shortcut. Let me go over why. First, the shroomless wallclip out of bounds. This is the most deceptively difficult part of the entire run. It took me over a day of TASing just that part before I finally got it. It requires either an insanely precise wheelie clip or an equally precise drop-wheelie delay clip, and when I say precise, I don't just mean in terms of where you hit the wall. I also mean in terms of how long you're in the air when you hit the wall, how high the pitch of your bike is when hitting the wall, and how fast you're moving when entering the air. You have to clip the wall on exactly the 5th frame of airtime with no less than 80 speed and with a pitch no less than 45.1 all at the same time. It is ludicrously difficult to get all of these things to happen at once, and even if you get them all to line up and get a high enough clip, you have to be just the right distance away from the finish line or else you'll either bonk on the pole before or after you reach the apex of your clip. Let's say you pull that off though. By some miracle you pull of this absurdly precise clip. You now have to drive forward and turn around without accidentally hitting the killplane that has no visual indicator, then shroom and perform a fast double spindrift without popping back in bounds or hitting the killplane and perform a wheelie upon landing. You THEN need to pray that you hit the double sided wall (which once again has no visual indicator) after being airborne (which you can't really control) for no fewer than 5 frames. After that, you have to angle down and perform a frame perfect OOB hop that isn't always consistent and land precisely on the OOB seam which can respawn you if you get even slightly too far to the left. If you land from the wallclip too far forward, the OOB hop will send you too far and you'll miss the seam, and if you land too far from the seam, the OOB hop won't get you far enough. Then finally you have to somehow perform a perfect one shroom seam swing without being too far to the left or right and then barely enter the final key checkpoint region to get the lap to count. Calling this ultra pretty precise is a massive understatement as far as RTA viability is concerned. Technically it's not physically impossible, but it'd be roughly on-par in difficulty to performing the rBC ultra 3 times in a row, and you're not even guaranteed to save time with it because you have to drive two shroomless laps with the Phantom compared to the one shroom laps of the Flame Runner WR. This is not being done humanly.
