At long last, I have mickey moused my way into a TAS BKT on a regular track. This is an idea that I've had in the back of my head for a loooong time, but only recently did I realize it could actually be possible. I believe this is the first TAS BKT with a kart ever, which is pretty insane. This is also the first demonstration of a delayed lap count on rDH.
Anyone who's seen the original Coconut Mall Olympics knows that you can drive upside down using the Tiny Titan. This is made possible by something we call barrel roll collision, which is a type of wall that unlocks your vehicle's rotation when you interact with it. Tiny Titan specifically is the easiest to flip over by far, and its square-ish hitbox makes it very stable upside down. This would be a pretty useless property, if it weren't for the fact that driving upside down allows you to drive on solid out-of bounds without being respawned. This was demonstrated with a bike in the first rPG glitch flap: • [MKW TAS] New Ultra Sh... The problem with using a bike is that you cannot turn at all without flipping over and getting respawned. However, using a kart has its own downside: since karts can't wheelie, it's much more difficult to flip them upside down. On Desert Hills, the only barrel roll collision is on the walls of the lake, so simply dropping over the ledge like on CM is not an option. This is what stumped me for a long time, until I recently saw a video of Charlie nearly flipping the Mini Beast over using one of the trees: • Wheelchair is here for... This inspired me to try with the Tiny Titan, and while I couldn't flip over using the tree, I ended up finding a much better and more convenient spot, which can be seen at the start of my run.
After flipping over, the rest of the run consists of navigating into the OOB and driving back and forth to hit the correct checkpoints. This is very slow, as maintaining the upside-down state requires your internal speed to stay below 15. Despite this, a Tiny Titan flap beats the original ultra strat by about 10 seconds, due to not having to drive around the lake or respawn at the end. Unfortunately, without a significantly faster setup, this will not be 3-lap viable. When it comes to RTA viability, however, I will say that there are no humanly impossible inputs in this run, and in fact most inputs are fairly lenient. The real challenge of pulling this off is how insanely tedious it would be, so for anyone crazy enough to try, I wish you the best of luck.
