@coolestto
@coolestto 3 жыл бұрын
Nobody in modern politics argues accurately. I very rarely see people arguing against the true beliefs of an opposing viewpoint. Instead they attack an outrageous strawman which completely bypasses the logic of the true belief. Best example is abortion. Pro-life argues that "The pro-choicers are MURDERING CHILDREN! They are BLOODTHIRSTY and inhumane." Pro-choice argues "The pro-lifers are MISOGYNISTS who oppose abortion because they want to CONTROL WOMEN!" Not one person actually addresses the true divide in opinions, which is whether or not a human fetus constitutes a human being. If THAT were the focus of conversation, maybe we could actually get somewhere TOGETHER, but instead we're gridlocked by manufactured outrage.

What's tiring is that not having an stance (sometimes for the valid reason of "I don't know enough to form one") is seen as agreeing with the "enemy" of whoever asked for such stance. It's even more tiring to be expected to be experts on all issues all the time. It's impossible at best and anxiety/stress inducing at worst. Even if you want to be an activist, it's more effective to focus on one core issue than to spread your time and energy over all issues.

It's more like the opposite. One of the things about depressed people is that they have limited neurogenesis, which means they become incapable of forming new thoughts so their mind basically get stuck in a loop they can't get out of. They become more or less incapable of accepting new thoughts, they only accept thoughts that conform to ideas they already have. Tell a depressed person why and how things are not so bad the only thing they'll do is find a reason why it is and why that person is wrong and stupid and just trying to hurt them and so on, they can't accept the idea because they're not forming new neurons, or at least a lot less of them than regular people, and will therefore never see things from a new perspective. Why this happens nobody knows. But that's what medication tries to do, basically kickstart neurogenesis. But without it being combined with therapy/spiritual guidance they'll just create new depressing thoughts, so they'll need someone to guide them in order to form more positive ideas going forward.

I usually take the neutral position on a lot of divisive thought germs, and one thing I have notice is the one side or the other trick makes the thought germs fight harder against resistant minds. I swear, the comments for this video are some of the CALMEST and happiest I've ever seen for any KZbin comments section. It's as if everyone is consciously AVOIDING getting angry just to prove the video wrong about them. Even the "angry" comments you see here aren't actually angry. They're just jokes poking fun at anger, itself. Hell, even trolling is virtually nonexistent! That is, I barely see ANYONE in the comments saying anything that's INTENDED to bait other people into angry arguments. I only see "pretend trolls" here, which are basically just people who are PRETENDING to be trolls and have no real intention of instigating angry responses as real trolls would. *The title of this video should be called "Reverse Psychology" because that's exactly what it is -- getting people to avoid anger by telling them they will be angry.*

The very idea of a meme is that ideas really can't be "stolen" as opposed to "shared" if things like that happen. I'm not sure if Dawkins legitimately stole the idea or put his own take on it, but he made a meme out of describing memes if it was the latter.

And the biggest issues with the theory of memetics are: No physical, measurable explanation for the proposed phenomenon The mutability of thoughts are such that a stable descent is not possible, and thoughts mix in ways not applicable to reproduction/genetics/population curves. (If they were, a human could mate with a fly, and get a cow) Folkloristics and other such fields make models and setups more comprehensible and useful than those proposed after Dawkins's memetics

Our brains can't be that illogical if we are the top of the food chain and can reproduce quite effectively. Which is the entire point of life, to stay on top and make more humans.
@GuyWithAnAmazingHat
@GuyWithAnAmazingHat 10 жыл бұрын
Michael Wade There are countless ways to stay on top of the competition, intelligence is just one of them and logic is only one of the functions our brain has. We humans may be very effective organisms, but horseshoe crabs, sponges, sharks, dragonflies and many other animals have lived for hundreds of millions of years without needing anywhere as much brain power. In fact the greatest organisms are probably microbes, they will outlive all macro organisms and will most definitely hitch hike on human spaceships and spread throughout the universe in the future. But then again if I go back to the idea of memes being living things, our ideas, fictional characters and other memes have already been broadcast and spread across the galaxy for the past 100 years by radio.

I love this video. I hate this comment section. People watched this video and then proceeded to ignore it. Whether it's, Democrats vs Republicans (or rich people), Republicans vs Democrats (or more recently Mexicans and Muslims), Nazis vs Jews, Capitalism vs Communism, Free-Tradists vs Mercantilists, Feminists vs Masculinists, Civil-Rightists vs "Freedom Fighters," etc, they all fall under this theory. You all need to realize that when you post a comment slandering another group, you are making things worse for everyone. This is the reason why a civil and open-minded debate is hard to come by on the Internet. People argue and build up an image so inaccurate that they probably don't even remember what they're arguing against anymore. That's the only reason racism, xenophobia, and plain bigotry are still thriving types thoughtgerms.

@Jace Wright I'm not certain DC vs Marvel holds the same power as the other, where people sharing the same viewpoint will willfully gather to exchange their thoughts about how bad the opposing group really is, it's mostly frontal (and frankly, cheerful) confrontations. Apart from a lack of importance (except for some rare individuals), the problem with this specifics memes is that both sides aren't mutually exclusive, and in any given conversation, you'll have a great chance to encounter people appreciating both without falling in some kind of middle ground fallacy. This could theoretically also be true for playground kids, but reliance on black or white fallacies and rejection fear will be a lot more effective in this context. I also really think that the most successful anger memes draw a lot of power from a feeling of threat, that there is a clear possibility for this confrontation to go either way, and that if the opposing side somehow manages to win (even temporarily), you will lose something important. Hence why people here will think first about Liberals vs Conservatives rather than Anarchy vs State.

MisterTenNumbers are....you arguing against multiple uses of a word as a political stance? (Assuming that’s why you are saying right wing= 100% correct because the word right also means correct??? I’m not sure I understand? Can you explain further? I’m asking because I try to assume good faith, and a political slogan that shallow being convincing to you would make you really really dumb. You aren’t really really dumb are you?) You seem to take grammar Nazi very literally 🤣 Ps. You see the irony of your totemic hated here?
